Not quite...

Thats not true at all Anakin. The same goes for any member of the public. We all have a right to action a citizens arrest under section 24A of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. This one comes under something like "The person causing loss of or damage to property" But you have to be satisfied that an offence has being commited and that it's not reasonable for a constable to effect the arrest at that given time. Trying to remember back to my training but that was eight years ago.

Just knack 'em upside the head and get 'em back in't cells, that's the best course of action until you get Tasers.

I'd love to see a plastic policeman 'arrest' a group of gypsies stealing a cable, let's be honest, a grand scrap value? Not going to be little kids are they, If they are basing the grand scrap value as a 'stripped' price then it's well over 200kg, if they are basing it on unstripped then it's well over 800kg.

Last time the floodlight cable was stolen, I was told in the wholesalers by the company that were contracted to repair it, all the while the club denied it. When walking to the game that the weekend; there was cable striplings right down the track.

It's a bit of an epidemic at the moment. A couple of months ago we were without power for a day when thieves broke into the electricity sub-station that serves our area and did the same. Blimey, bit of a dangerous thing to go robbing. icon_eek.gif

Got replacements items via insurance and about 2 weeks ago the electric company sent 200 quid by way of an apology (without admitting any liability). Loads of un-insured folk moaned to the local MP but I had zero sympathy, that's what insurance is for.

Glad you got sorted. Still don't get the mentality of people risking their lives for it though. Mental.

Quote: Anakin Skywalker "Yeah the cabling on the towers which are god know how high can be any more secure.

I also find the comment. 'How is it the police's fault?' rather comical.
2 hours before anyone turned up maybe is the norm but it is still hardly acceptable.

As for the 'B' licence thankfully those who award such things arn't a one eyed FC fan.'"

Good god man! It was a Friday night when the crime occurred apparently. I reckon the cops were busy in the city centre at the time. Perhaps stopping violent crime was their priority on the evening of the theft of cable from an empty RL ground. Hardly acceptable you say!

2 hours for a robbery is amazing. If i was my house it would have been 2 days.

I think he means 'in general' it's poor that the Police take so long. In an ideal world the Police would be readily available in abundance, any day of the week. I've reported someone breaking into a car - Police didn't come, on the flipside, I pulled into a service station to phone the police about a car driving very strangely at 2am, I was told on the phone "Units have been dispatched, thank you for your call", at which point several policemen came running from the service area and into unmarked Police cars and sped off, Great isn't it that while we wait 2 days for an officer to come and take a statement of a burglary, the local traffic police are all sat at Ferrybridge playing GoFish.
