| Wheee! Just got in from Fair. I love it! How that Egyptian has even conned the few he has into convincing people that that massive and unique institution can be moved elsewhere without dilution is beyond me.
All the smells and emotions and sounds! And memories that are revived in the only way they can by visiting Hull Fair - the biggest and the best. Gotta be down Walton street to be right.
Got conned into going on those huge Dive Bomber things by the twelve-year-old calling me chicken. It was wonderful! The views! Spent enough, but got to say we had good value for money on the Dodgems, Twister and the Waltzers - we got ages on each!
Managed to avoid temptation into Bob Carvers by putting a huge goulash in on a low oven before we left 'cos I knew if I didn't I'd have spent a fortune on fishcake, peas and chips for four - as sublime at Fair as they are revolting in town. Must be something to do with the molecules from the painted wooden walls and stripy awning diffusing flavour into the frying fat. You can't get that taste anywhere else.
Little Eve's lucky. There's nothing so exciting as Fair up until the age of twelvish - she's got it all to come and looks like she's loving it already.

TBH we in Hull sometimes forget just how lucky we are that we get a fair this size every year, Something no other Town or City in Europe can boast.
I didn't go this year as mine are only 2 and 1.
Its a weird situation that you get that used to it that you can actually get rather dis-interested at times.

| Haha, enjoyed reading that post Worm (thing? - still not sure what's that's about but I'll bet it's funny), I hate the idea of the fair but once there I'm drawn into it, I particularly like the rigged games and working out why something looks easy but why it's so hard. Score 6 or more to win a teddy (tiny teddy you'll win if you score too highly is hidden, you will be disappointed!) so with 3 darts (apparently that's what they are) you need to hit 1, 2 & 3. The penalty game is the best, my 10 year old nephew is a star at it. They roll him a ball (he looks young, benefit of doubt they let him take it closer than adults) 'bang' straight through the middle, "damn" they say, they move him back to the line for his second attempt, "bang" again, straight through the middle, now, here's the funny bit, still on the line, 2 from 2 with the chance of the top prize, they roll out another ball from under their chair, it's flat, they cheat kids! 'bang' straight in again, thanks lads see you again? No, that's not the case, "no youve won once, mate". I love Hull fair, me.

| Aye. The darts that bounce straight back out of the rock-solid-varnished boards so they imbed in your eye. The hoop-las where the box thing the 10 year old bottle of Spanish red with the tenner stuck on it with an elastic band is [ijust that fraction[/i too large for the inner diameter of the rings (apart from the magic one the stall-holder has on his belt that he uses to demonstrate that it [ican[/i be done). The bingo where you can't slide the little square along to blank your numbers because they're so clogged up with fag ash. Love it all.
We did see lots of proper Wrights brandy snap, though (I was worried after earlier posting of "Traditional" imitations). But have avoided the toffee apples since the year I bit into one and the apple was so old it had reached that horrid mushy state. Only one stall selling fairy dolls, though, and not one "savage head" big black balloon with coloured feathers on the top. And no "Father Christmas" with half-mast threadbare muddy trouser bottoms and grey trainers. Thank God.
Did stock up on lots of chocolate coated cinder toffee, though.

Did you get rid of all the voices in your head? Do you now miss them and the things that they said?: |

| The 6 tin cans stacked, knock them all off with 3 foam balls that weigh less than a tea bag. Smash a bottle from a 6inch nail including the neck with 3 small wooden balls, Impossible.
Got a ball to land in a bucket to win a giant banana, "rim shot" he said.

Always approach the Fair from Spring Bank end as we walk from our house. Walked up past Bob Carvers trying to find the "animals that convert into cushions - they're only £3, mum" for the youngest. I bet old grey beard had wrapped them all up in that cheap paper that tears so you can see what you're getting before he gives you it.
Would feel very strange approaching Hull Fair from the Anlaby Road end, come to think of it. Not quite right. If I can't cope with that thought, I'm not going to handle it very well if Allam shoves it in East Park, or wherever.
