| I e-mailed the RFL to clarify why Magic Weekend is not taking place over the Bank holiday weekend. This is the reply is recieved from Rob Porteous
Thank you for your email below and I’d be delighted to clarify the reason why Magic Weekend is being played a week earlier this year.
Due to the Football World Cup taking place Manchester City’s season finishes a week earlier this year. As part of their pitch maintenance they used to remove the turf after their last game however since 2012 they’ve delayed this by a week in order for us to be able to play the Magic Weekend fixtures. It is for this reason that we’ve had to move the weekend not because of One Direction.

Yeah, right. This will be the 3rd one. Still "tradition" has to start somewhere I suppose!

The bigger question is WTF were the RFL playing at booking it for that weekend anyway.
[uI have my thinking in that they probably[/u went for the dates they wanted late and were told it had already gone but were offered a weekend close to what they wanted. Manchester City probably thought 'It's FA cup weekend so they wont go for it' only to be shocked when the RFL didn't even do basic checks to check they didn't clash and came back with the positive answer.
I know that sounds far fetched but it is the RFL we are talking about here. Plus it's either that or they thought going head to head with the FA cup was a good idea.
'"
So, a complete conjecture on your part that the Rfl left it 'too late'. Either that or they wanted a 'head to head with the FA cup' (a final that was extremely unlikely to hold any interest for the vast majority of RL fans had it not been for the extremely unlikely scenario that has actually prevailled, but we'll leave that one aside for the moment). So you'll agree that your rantings and indignation on this thread stem from your own supposition that the Rfl was forced into choosing this date by their own tardiness?
Well, it transpires that your 'far fetched' dismissal turns out to be right:

Now, I've no love of the headless chickens in Red Hall, but it appears that you've spectacularly jumped the gun on this one.
Go on, bald(?) Ani, give us your thoughts (and the Rfl your apology?).

Erm, no! It's 2 as in 2! One hasn't occurred yet.
Stop bleating. After watching your game last night I'd have thought you'd all ditch the Wendyball for some more of that. There's no way the FA Cup final will match that!

| If the cup final affects more than 100 fans of both clubs combined I'd be very surprised

There'no doubt in my mind that it will effect a lot more than 100 fans of both sides.
I usually go with a party of 8 adults and juniors to the MW but as the younger members are also Hull city fans, we will be obtaining tickets and attending the F.A cup final this year.
I was also talking to a few other rovers fans in the pub after Thursday nights game who were either going to the F.A cup game or knew of someone who would be.
At the end of the day its a probable once in a lifetime opportunity for many and unfortunately it clashes with the Hull KR v Hull Fc game.
The thing which is more significant in my mind is,.... the fact that the MW is supposed to be the RFL's attempt at showcasing the game to a wider audience outside of RL heartlands, however, as the F.A cup final and its big build up (which usually starts early in the day,) will probably mean that few people outside of Rugby league will bother to tune in to the MW on the same day imo.
