You would have thought so,wouldn`t you? If Mason said he was going at the end of the season and he would give 100% untill then,i don`t think any of us could blame him.But if he goes now,it`s a bit of a slap in the face. After his first game against Crusaders, the guy was sensational, but since he`s been very average. On that form,he won`t be a big loss.

The club is a business, they need to explore all the possibilities of bringing in players and for what ever reason things can go wrong, it will never be the Clubs intention of upsetting fans. Neil Hudgell is the most loyal Chairman in SL and he is always looking to improve this great club. He will take gambles, some pay off some dont, no big deal. No need for that if you want to continue down that road go and post on the 'other' thread-RW
If Mason is to go then so what, we will bring in some one else next season , if he stays then so be it, I am fully behind the Club and all the Directors. I like the excitment.
On a serious note the whole saga is either some gross cynical tactics (whether by club or player), horrendous mis-management (whether by club or by RFL), or devastating bad luck More likely a mixture of the first two IMO but I don't know the details and not many do.
One thing is for sure it does not help the image of the sport - when the Dobson/Mason registration issue first occurred I didn't like it but appreciated you 'play to the whistle' and wished our board had the nous to achieve such a feat, but unfortunately it has back fired and when these things do you have to stand up and be counted.
We could conceivably face a comparable backfire with our Gleeson gamble if it goes pear shaped and the same will have to he said then, but no reward without risk. Unfortunately there is also always consequences if the risk doesn't pay off.

| Right just so everyone is aware we are getting annoyed by the fact that certain posters are either ignoring the mods on this board or deliberatly playing dumb.
IWe had enough now so warnings are going to start being issued for folks who are mixing up the two 'Dobson/Mason' threads.

| RE-REGISTRATION OF AN OVERSEAS PLAYER
C1:4:7 An "overseas Player" who is removed from a Club Register during the Season cannot then be placed back on that Club's Register in that same Season save with the permission of the Board.
Clutching at straws...
...if the Tongan privy council come good and the seeming strength of the Toulon link has come from repetition rather than having a solid basis, then could a de-registered overseas quota player, on becoming non-overseas quota, re-register? I think so
One more twist, one more twist!

Given what's gone on and that Mason is currently without portfolio, stuck in East Hull, presumably unable to train with the squad, how motivated do you think he will be to bust a gut for Rovers if he is re-registered? FWIW I believe you describe a feasible scenario, but James Smailes said on RH tonight that their information was that Mason had played his last game for Rovers. I personally think Mason's been a bit "done to" in this scenario. He was keen to get here and went to Tonga to speed things up, has done all the club appearances etc asked of him, played as many minutes as asked and been a bit cross at being taken off on a couple of occasions, and now finds himself unable to ply his trade. For all that people say he might be OK to kick his heels and take the cash, at 31 he seems keen to play and Rovers administrative oversight re Galea's passport have made that impossible.

I'd just like to lend my support to this. If you're not sure, err on the side of caution and use the other thread.

Surely Rovers can feel hard done to that the Tongan government has fallen through?

Possibly, but simple root cause analysis shows that all this stems from the incorrect judgement on Galea's Maltese passport. If Rovers had got that right, they would have either not signed Mason to start with, or offloaded another overseas player to accommodate him. All I'm saying is that of all the parties involved here, Rovers, governments, RFL etc, Mason has seemingly done everything asked of him and come out of it the wors, at least at present, as he is effectively being restrained from plying his trade despite being fit and willing to do so. Now, maybe he's not bothered whilst he's being paid, and maybe he'll go to Toulon for a whole pile of cash so will just enjoy the summer either here or in France or back home, who knows, but whilst some are a bit huffy about it and saying things like "If he doesn't want to play for us he can sod off", I think, despite people at one time thinking he was likely to create trouble for others, it's actually not panned out like that at the moment, anyway.

In my line of business, I wouldn't accept your root cause analysis report. You have failed to probe deep enough when concluding incorrect judgement with Galea & the Maltese passport. Before concluding (aportioning blame?) further probing is required into what went wrong in his application. Without knowing that, it cannot be assumed that Rovers misjudged the situation.
