| Quote: Mild Rover "To me it just reads as that Aussie thing of being brutally frank. SL smells of wee, but my client will hold his nose for a club that stinks a bit less than most, if he really has to. And he already has that option.
We have to realise that SL looks to them much how the championship looks to followers of SL. 2 or 3 clubs that could maybe compete at the lower end of the higher level, a few players worth having, but mostly second rate. Especially when somebody like Mather basically says it straight out.
The one thing that does seem slightly off is saying they'll wait until after the season to decide - that'd seem likely to narrow your options, as clubs look to conclude business sooner than that generally. If he is going to Hull and it is an elaborate and clumsy ruse, then for heavens sake somebody stop him doing an interview with Angela Powers!'"
Other than saying the NRL enjoys a higher profile than Super League, where exactly in that article does Mather dismiss SL as an unacceptable option as you and other Rovers fans allude to? It is the Hull KR club that has the unacceptable smell, not Super League per se.
"MICKEY Paea has rejected the offer to stay on at Hull KR next season as he weighs up 'multiple offers' from rival Super League clubs."
Seems fairly conclusive. I'm sure if an NRL offer came up before he signs for the Super League club of choice then that would be considered too, but as indications point to an imminent signing - if not a signature already being fanned dry - they'll need to get their skates on.
The only incredulity Mathers displays is that he can't quite comprehend how Paea was allowed to sign for Rovers in the first place. It can only be that the most famous name in rugby, Hull Kingston Rovers, is viewed in glowing neon lights from the other side of the pond. Fancy signs, however, often front the harsh realities lurking behind. A bit like a seedy Soho club. Still, it appears to be an easy mistake to make. Mason made it too, and our Sharon.

My original thought was it should have been a penalty from where Green encroached the 10m on Eden, BUT according to Stuart Cummings the penalty should have been given to Rovers where Green was stood when Houghton kicked it. Perhaps this is why our referees are criticised as it seems clear that RL Fans trolls know better.

SL clearly isn't unacceptable, just not preferred. And if we're taking Mather at his word, they're in no rush - and why would they be? I'd be surprised if his range of options don't expand to include NRL offers. If he signs for Hull you've got an excellent player, but one whose agent has chosen (and if the ink is already drying, this is slightly bizarre) to make it known that the player would prefer to be elsewhere, in an ideal world. No biggie - if we get a replacement from the NRL, we know deep down that he'd most likely have preferred to stay there, but we expect them to make a few more positive sounds than that, or at worst keep quiet.
I'm not saying he definitely won't sign for Hull, though in all honesty I'd be a little surprised, just that it seems strange to make clear a preference for the NRL, if the deal is already done.
The eternal consolation is that it frees up money with which to target new recruits, and the hope that the signings we make could push us on to bigger and better things.*

Like the penalty that was given in the Salford televised game on Monday night when the Salford player encroached on the Wakefield fullback.

mmm.. 90 metres from the FC line with only minutes left at the Etihad. I'm sure Rovers would never be able to score from there.
Would they?
