The more I read that, the more I think it was simple brinkmanship on Rule's part and it seemed to have paid off.

| Quote: Beverley red "Have resisted untill now to voice my opinion on this, But having read the League press this morning & done a little investigating of my own I find it interesting that there is such an emotive use of the word banned drug! it turns out that the said drug is perfectly legal to take except within 12 hours of competition. As is caffine (drink to much coffee you can fail the drugs test).
I find this a none story by a rag that wont report on our game in any other circumstance & should be treated with the contempt it deserves, If it has the proof it says it has then go to the police otherwise shut up & leave our game alone as it dose for most of the year.'"
Good point that, it also goes someway to explaining Rules comment about "half the squad could be taking it", its quite possible they were totally legally. The overreaction and stirring by some sections of the media, and some fans has been asounding.
Thats not to say its not vastly embarasing for Hull and the game, (the "cover up" moreso than the incompentence/stupidity of Rule/Cooper/Gleeson), but from reading some reaction you'd think half the squad were serial steroid abusers.

It seems very difficult for the players, should they take the word of the trained professional that what they take is ok or should they all have their own personal advisor to safeguard against this happening again.
I do agree with a dum dum, surely if you need a drug to stop you feeling tired then you must be on a slippery slope, why would a diet pill make you feel less tired, surely the whole point of diet pills is to use energy not add it.
Another point to bare in mind, a lot are saying these type of drugs are trivial and don't aid performance but surely if you feel knackered during a match and you take something that stops you feeling knackered then its enhancing your performance.'"
Just out of interest, would taking a drink of something like "Red Bull " just before a match count as performance enhancing?

The way it has come out in dribs and drabs has meant there has been plenty of opportunity to grab the end of the stick - I've done it myself a couple of times.
I've not seen too much on other boards considering. The Hull and Rovers ones are always a bit febrile when there is mud to be slung in either direction (so pretty regularly ), so I'd replace 'astounding' with 'predictable' there.
Has Hudgell made it to full-blown demonhood on B&W yet?

| Quote: Mrs Barista "Hudgell calls for an inquiry. If only Rovers had finished higher, they came so close to progressing in the play-offs.
It's clearly a principled stance to screw them for future concessions. Mason should have been allowed to play in the KC derby alongside Dobson. He had a note from the Tongan Prime Minister and probably his mum, too. But oh no, the RFL was all like 'we can't do that, we're all into integrity.'
With Gleeson, it's 'ooh, let's wait and see' and 'wouldn't it be embarrassing if poor Hull FC had to stand down half their team'. We had Mason's mug plastered everywhere, people had paid good money to watch him eat a sandwich - but that didn't quite register high enough on the red-face richter scale, apparently.

Eh? Rovers won awards for Masongate's embarrassment quotient. Tsk.

I was wondering that myself, theoretically it does aid performance as it uses a stimulant to make you have more energy. I suppose if you extrapolate that enough you'd actually ban bananas and sandwiches as well.

To be fair I think the reaction on here has been pretty mild, there hasn;t really been the lynch mob mentality out to ban FC that I would have expected. More are in agreement that the RFL are more culpable then the club. I'm actually surprised by a fair bit of the reaction on B&W about wanting Hetherington and Agar keel hauled.
I'm more exasperated by the size and vigour used by the Daily Mail, a paper that doesn't know we exist until something bad happens, going on their past performances I can see a link between FC and the death of Diana beng dragged up soon.

Only the silver it turns out. In a reversal of the logic that saw Ben Johnson stripped of his title in Seoul, you belatedly claim the gold.*
