| Quote: Mr. Zucchini Head "Everything just smacks of doing it on the cheap at Rovers recently. I dont know if it's Hudgell not wanting to continue throwing good money after bad, or other investment disappearing, or simply the new stand not bringing in the expected income. It just kind of seems like if there's a way to save money, you are doing it.
Cheap recruitment, Webster in charge, merging the 19's (Hull are guilty of this too of course) not running a reserves team. All things that cut costs, but are having a negative impact on the field.
You can blame as many things as like, but this is professional sport, and if you survive this season (I still think you will ffiw) the only way you are going to take any significant steps forward is by serious investment in the playing and coaching teams, because currently they are just not good enough. If Hudgell can't do this then he needs to start being honest instead of blaming everything and everyone he can think of.'"
Having achieved the goals of getting up, staying up and becoming competitive, the club lost momentum/direction. With hindsight, the first warning sign should maybe have been the Willie Mason saga. 'Building for the future' always made me nervous - who, as a player in their prime, wants to be involved with a club that is aiming to be successful not now but later? The same worry returned with Peacock's downer on short-termism, as if it is an alternative to rather than a pre-requisite for long-term success. It might still all work out, And I obviously hope it does, but it has been an enormous gamble.
On the spending less/allocating resource poorly thing, it is hard to tell. When Rob Crossland talks about the big-spending vanity of our early years in SL, or Peacock refers to 'deals and deals', the implication as I read it is that we used to spend more, and that other clubs spend more now. But then, we're frequently told that we're at the cap. While the complexities of the cap mean that both could be true, it is an unclear message. Possibly deliberately so, to protect people who made poor decisions in good faith, while also seeking to pre-empt 'chequebook out' calls. The problem is that it creates confusion, and when we're losing, a lot of 'wtf is going on?' type questions.
All that has been compounded this year, by starting the season badly undercooked, and going for a smaller more mobile team that 'likes to play footie', when other clubs are getting much better results from more pragmatic approaches.

| Quote: Jake the Peg "Whoever is to blame, there is definitely someone (more than one person) repeatedly making poor decisions at your club. I'd be surprised if peacock worked in an environment where decisions were being made that he didn't agree with so have to believe he is at least part of the problem and obviously hudge must have a big hand in things. Whoever it was appointed webster either didn't care whether you got relegated or was so blinkered they thought you'd stay up irrespective of who was coaching you. As for a new coach, here you are 4 weeks away from the end of the season and you're still not sure who will be coaching you next year. Surely there were plenty of coaches around when you sacked chester who could have done a good job without running the risk of being relegated?'"
Leigh's coach resigned "mysteriously" ten days before the start of this season. I think everyone would agree that his "hastily" appointed replacement has done okay given the circumstances.
I have to say their has been a sea change in mood on this forum from the bullishness of last week. It is ONE result, KRers.

Was it crossland who was telling anyone who would listen that Hull's big lumbering pack would be in trouble once the pitches dried out and the weather warmed up whilst rovers would be running rings around them? Who was it who wouldn;t listen to Paul Hatton's advice and binned him instead? Who thought it a good idea to rely on signing leeds cast offs and running a small, lightweight squad? If people with so little knowledge of the game are making decisions at your club then no wonder your in such a mess

As an INTJ personality, I'm always going to prefer something from Machiavelli. There was a reason that Jim Hacker reacted the way he did to suggestions from Sir Humphrey that he was being brave. But we're a narrow demographic.
I've got great respect for Peacock, and it would be a nicer world if optimism and doing the right the thing were more often more than just their own reward. However, after accounting for inherent advantage and blind good fortune, success is usually built on cautious scepticism, IMO. Or timid cynicism, as it might seem to some people. That's the difference between being in the arena as a player, and being a director off-stage. You can always dress it up as something else though - like Theodore Roosevelt did with that uplifting quote. Great statesman, in large part because he was a smart politician.
All that said, it might work out yet for Peacock, and he has to be true to himself.

The problems predate Peacock. Whether he's doing a good job remedying the situation is still unclear. The suggestion that he had very limited room for manoeuvre this year, is entirely plausible.
His view that relegation was very unlikely could be seen as ebullient optimism, or naive.
His reluctance to sign loan players could be seen to be a determined effort to change our culture, or pointless obstinancy.
His eagerness to run an under-23s could help build a sounder foundation, or could just be following fashion.
It could easily go either way. Look back on the match thread for your cup final win - at after 60 pointless minutes for Hull, it was all stuff about 'rabbits in headlights', and the like, with a 'here we go again' vibe. 20 minutes later, they're heroes.
Win and you're a genius, lose and you're an idiot is what it comes down to.

Well, now that you have created a number of questions to my original post I shall answer them.
1 you are wrong to call him a child .......Really? ......Our Chairman has publicly called fans who are disgruntled and "speak the loudest" s .......How many of the Chairmen of the top Rugby League clubs have acted in such a manner? .......In fact, how many of the Chairmen of any top sports club has turned on the fans that "speak the loudest" and called them s? .......He also publicly expressed that those fans who speak the loudest "don't have the balls to do it" knowing full well that the average fan isn't a multi-millionaire .......I wonder how many of the average fans who were hypothetically multi-millionaires would "have the balls to do it"? .......My guess is that the majority of them would have the balls to do it, but because they are not financially in the situation to do it, all they can do is vent their frustration ........And because our Chairman knows this, he is in a privileged position to say such things ........The fact that he calls fans who speak the loudest "s" and the fact that he knows those who he accuses of not having "the balls to do it" aren't financially rich enough to do it shows that he is acting like a petulant child ........He is acting like the child who owns the ball and says "This is my ball, so if you don't like the way we are playing together, I will take my ball away and none of us will be able to enjoy playing together" .......His comments regarding "s" and "the balls to do it" are evident that he has a child mentality.
2 how old are you .......I'm 57, how old are you? .......I really don't understand this line of questioning and your point ........What are you trying to prove by asking such a question?
3 have you been their when we was in danger of having to merge with hull and not even had any hope of watching rovers in any league .......Yes, I volunteered my time and worked for free during this time .......Did you? .......Did you volunteer your time and actually spend your own money buying little things like wood, nails, paint and whatever was needed to maintain the stadium? .......I did, did you? ......Or are you one of those fans who acknowledge the hard work that people did during the dark times to keep our club afloat and have convinced themselves that because you acknowledge the hard work this somehow makes you one of those who actually gave up their time and money to keep our club alive? .......Did you actually do something when we were "in danger" or do you just associate yourself with those who did? .......Did you or do you just talk like you did?
And as for Hudgell .....Yes, he rescued us .......But wouldn't you if you were a multi-millionaire? .......A family of five who are season pass holders give up approximately £1000 a year out of their annual income to support Hull KR ......And given that the majority of Hull KR supporters are earning somewhere around the minimum wage, I wonder what percentage of the average Hull KR supporter's wage is pumped into Hull KR when compared to the wage of our illustrious Chairman?

Can't say I disagree with a lot what you've said, not keen on the way it was said but the last paragraph is very true, a lot of people spend money they can ill afford to support the club and as such deserve a voice when things are looking as bad as they are.
The one downside to all you are saying is what are the other options, if he does take his ball home then who steps in?

I'm not sure he is to be honest.
He joined after last season (November-ish?), so hasn't quite been in his post for a year yet. The time he joined would've been too late to secure any decent signings for 2016, as well as having minimal cap space to play with. He had to plug some squad gaps, cheaply. I think a year is way too early to write him off.
Unfortunately for him, what he inherited was a pile of cack. Massive apparent issues with the management of the cap, and some really poor players, all signed up and contracted for 2016 & beyond.
It was similar for Motu & Radford. We had two years of re-building following the gross mismanagement of the Gentle/McRae years.
I doubt Peacock has much say in the new head coach either, that'll be Hudgell's call. Hudgell's the problem. His whole mantra is about beating Hull, looking at what Hull are doing through envious eyes - we saw evidence of this in his 10-point letter to fans a few weeks ago.
