Are they going to pile THROUGH the newly applied layer?

Yes. The surveyors will mark/plot out the site where the piling caps are to hammered in. I've been told the membrane is required due to the close proximity to the Humber. Perhaps someone who is far more technical than me can explain the intricacies etc.

Also, depending on the stone that has been used to cover the membrane once the piling is completed it may need to be replaced in readiness for the concrete laying phase.

Yes I was at CP today and had 2 things confirmed.
1 it is a piling mat and not a damp proof course.
2 as you rightly say it is going to be driven THROUGH by the piles.

I asked what the black membrane was actually for and it is to stop the stones sinking into the soil below so it stays solid for the piling machine.

When does the piling start?

The guess was about 4 weeks but that was all it was.

Manhole now finished so I guess the services required are now in place.

This is clearly now finished and skimmed so I guess that means that it IS for the modern arkwork that folks in prison created.

Correct, it would need a bit more than a thin membrane to keep the Humber out
