Quote Larry Billey="Larry Billey"Some of us where at the shareholders meeting when it was rail-roaded through...a fait accompli if ever there was one...and it was 1988 and i was in my early 20,s so not exactly "as old as the houses"..
Its true many speak highly of Colin and he is very much a "gent" , however that decision set the club back incalculably...and should never be "rewarded"...
And the truth of the matter is that while Colin did have a little success as coach back in the 60's he took over Rovers chairmanship when we were already a top club with everything on a plate for him, he basked in the glory of the 80's great team and then pretty much oversaw the destruction of everything that had been built up...and we are still struggling because of his misguided, some say self interested, decisions...
But i suppose because hes a "great bloke" we can just write off 20 years as one of those things, forget about the subsequent millions of pounds it has cost the club (and individuals) and yeah lets name a stand after him...why not?'"
Larry you post a lot of stuff that is way OTT but in this instance I have to agree.
No matter how you dress it up, the bottom line is that Colin Hutton was the Chairman of the club (and therefore ultimately responsible) at the time when some catastrophic decisions where made which in my opinion resulted in 20 years of decay playing in a stadium which set us back in a really way.
It's quite possible that Colin Hutton is sorry for the club and regrets some of the decisions he made at that time but the reality is, is that we're still paying the price for those decisions.
