| Quote: stew "He absolutely did admit to it and he apologised publicly for it.
Im not sure what you mean about pretend moral high ground or who you are aiming that comment at but I'll be totally clear I am 100% against racism and I'm not pretending about that.
Ben Cockayne and his views/racist terminology mean that I would prefer him not to play for the team I support.
That is my view and im not trying to make it yours as well but I do think attempting to deny or deflect from the racist element of Ben's history is wrong. If you dont think it was that big a deal and your willing to overlook it as long as Ben pulls on the Rovers shirt again then just say that, but let's not pretend it didn't happen.'"
Admitting to have said what he said and apologising for doing so does not constitute admitting to making a racist comment. He apologised for the damage caused by what he had written but denied being a racist and no views were ever expressed about a race. Substitute the word he used for another race and nobody bats an eyelid as no actual racism took place, hence the quickly dropped charges. Not wanting him back is fine, not agreeing with what he has done is normal but nobody can make accusations as to his views on other races as nobody knows what they are, despite what the Hull Daily Mail told you.

| Quote: Burtons Forearm "His expressed opinions on race and immigration reported on the mail taken from his Facebook were disgusting. it would be a shamefully and embarrassing episode if he should return to the club.
On the rugby side a liability. Can't catch high kicks and is a penalty waiting to happen. Saw him lose us plenty of games through indiscipline. Fan favourite. If buffoons and nasty ones are your thing then this guy is your man. Why Don't we go the whole hog and start monkey noises when opposition black players get the ball if Ben is your thing.
Keep him away from our club please.'"
I think your assessment of Cockayne as a player is based more on his off field incidents than his actual playing ability.

We could argue (on the VT) all day about what does and does not constitute racism. However the idea that substituting 'black ****' or 'Jewish ****' for what he said would lead to nobody batting an eyelid is not accurate. And I'm being generous by avoiding the n- and y- words.
It is old and, irrespective of where you draw the line on racism, ugly ground, and not his only embarrassing misdemeanour. I don't want to have to go over it again, and at nearly 30 and presumably needing a fee, I'm not even seeing any compelling rugby reason to justify raking over old coals.

| Wakefield have stated he is going nowhere, so hopefully that will put you all out of your misery.
Whatever issues ben has he has proven to be a very good rugby league player and i would be happy for him to remain a wakefield player.
While he has been with us his behaviour and conduct has been exemplary.

I can see that and I think that's fine.
Cockayne had plenty of chances and made plenty of mistakes and eventually burned his bridges at Rovers.
He made some serious errors of judgement but I personally (however abhorrent I felt his behaviour to be at the time) don't feel that he should be denied the chance to pursue his chosen career. His time was up at Rovers because of his off field misdemeanours and I don't think there was anything wrong in Wakefield offering the chance to have another go. As you say, he's kept his nose clean since he's been at Belle Vue and he's proved to be a success.
Best thing is for him to stay where he is, he looks to be pretty involved in the community side of things over there and is clearly enjoying his rugby, all other issues aside I can't see why he would want to leave, why Wakefield would let him go or why Rovers would want him back.

I think it would be obvious why, he is a proven try scorer and a hard worker something teams like ours would desire.
Everything else i completely agree.

He did, but lets put race on the back burner for now.
What about stamping on the head of a prone man on the floor?

Aye that says it all for me.

Yes, there's no doubting that - but he's under contract with you guys, and while he's versatile and a 100%er, even on purely rugby terms I don't think he justifies a fee. I'd rather we used that money to secure a forward or a half. And if we do need a back there's a few ooc.
