Quote: BringBackRugbyLeagueBiff "the comments on here about Newton would probably fit perfectly for Ben Galea. Am I missing something here?

Newton has been strolling round the park??? So what about that ankle tap he did after Webster got the runaround? What about the offload that created the opening for Webster for him to throw the ball in touch (although, Colbon had over-run it slightly)

Newton took the ball up solidly all night and only made one major error (the offload which Hull snapped up) and, like I've said, a Hull Fc hand was in there too.

Ben Galea?? He looked like a Man of Steel, now he looks like an average Aussie. He was 'terrible', and looks like he's playing silly bugg ers regarding the contract. Some of the knock-ons he made were ridiculous, that knock-on from Cooke's perfect pass was unbelievable - it was on a plate.
Newton has been awesome all year, I cannot believe the criticism levelled at him from here.
Ok Clint icon_wink.gif icon_thumb.gif

Great response, how exactly was he terrible though - Galea fair enough!

I agree with you regarding Agar's tactics, which worked well as it seemed they played down Webster's side on his tackling. Also, sticking more than one man when tackling Newton and Webster to try and stifle them.

Either that or Justin has no confidence in Watts, Spaven and Esders. You can see how the evidence available, ie playing Newton with 2 injuries, would lead the uninformed to that conclusion. icon_lol.gif

Terrible is probably the wrong word in all fairness. I thought he was totally ineffective. He dropped off a lot of tackles and the ankle tap you highlighted was down to a poor effort on Berrigan in the first place. The ball he lost was not stripped it was clearly a loose carry, he also spilled the ball close to the Hull line in the first half on the 3rd tackle and he was fortunate to get a penalty when clearly losing the ball in a one on one steal with Burnett.

The guy looks jaded as does Galea. GML stated he is carrying an injury so with Walker and Netherton fit there is no real need for them to play 80 mins every week.

Where as your team has no confidence in the coach who has no confidence in most of the players and no confidence in the fans who have no confidence in the coach, team or board in fact the only one who has confidence is kath confident she will one day have enough money to buy leeds icon_biggrin.gif

blimey, the positives you've dredged from defeat are quite literally astounding. You'll be comparing the number of stewards next, or coming up with marks out of 10 for cheerleading...

Quote: Gordon Gekko "Dowes and Cusack would deffo have made more yards and tackles than King and Cordoba (who was very ordinary). Thackray/Lauaki would have provided more impact from the bench, Washbrook would have played LF and Yeaman would have played right centre. That would have given Hull more quality and better balance. Agar got his tactics almost spot on yesterday but didn't really have the players to execute them properly. They rightly spotted Welham,Newton and Webster in defence and their short kicking game was outstanding. with ball in hand they always looked like they could break Rovers down. Remember there was only 6 points in it and Hull had three tries disallowed, 2 correctly and 1 incorrectly imo. I have no doubt that had Hull been full strength they'd have won yesterday.'"

So basically what your saying is that if Hull had the side playing that played us in the 1st Derby (except Lauiki) they would have beaten us, interesting as when you look at that game we won it...

Hull got a second wind after the lay off for the Briscoe injury, this gave them time to regroup, and for us to relax and think it was going to be a walk in the park. Hull played this game like it was a cup final from then on and we let them throw it about a bit and in the end they could have nicked it.. Basically we played very poorly for most of the game, Hull played as well as they could and we still won.. bottom line is if Hull play like that against hudds they'll get battered on Friday and if we play like that we'll get battered on Sunday.

On Topic, Rhys was outstanding again yesterday, by far our best prop although I thought Vella and Fozzard both played a lot better then they have recently.
Newts did ok, looked a bit tired and Galea looked Woeful again, I'd be tempted to leave him out on Sunday and give him a coupkle of weeks off.

Though Chev looked pretty good when he came on as well.
