Well, I await his presence in the 2013 SL dream team, and him to be regarded as one of the best 2nd rowers in the league for the next couple of years.
Paterson v Ellis is going to be some derby encounter, obviously.

. . .in your opinion!
I've just been watching Cory playing for NQC, he is a different type of 2nd rower to what we have at Rovers. IMO he will complement Mika, Galea (if he stays) and Coxy, and if all goes to plan become the impact player Rovers have lacked.
Cory also brings a solid defence, he can boot the ball miles, and jumps as high as any player I have seen. I can see him becoming a massive favourite.

| Hull fans always (well, often) run down our signings - and vice versa in fairness. Let's see how he gets on once he's here. Making the right sounds at least, which is all he can do at present.
Remember that Newton is generally held in much lower esteem amongst Newcastle fans, than among HKR fans so roopy's endorsement is perhaps just slightly more qualified than first appears.
If Laithwaite is finally confirmed and it's a permanent deal, we suddenly look well stocked in the backrow, and less so for (experienced) props, which'd be a reverse of this season. Lovegrove could move back to prop from being a prop-like 13, I guess, with Galea or Murrell at 13. Otherwise this looks like a sign of further departures (BOOOO!) and arrivals (HUZZZZAH!)

Wow, your credibility rating just fell a couple more points.
I didn't realise you rated Clint so highly either.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

| In my opinion, Newton was fairly rubbish in his last season and spent most of his time knocking on, so Paterson won't have to be that good to be better than him.
Newton was also never better than Galea. Newton was a show pony, a mostly effective one but a show pony none the less.

The period when the flat pass stuck more often than not, he was really good. When he started to knock on a high proportion of the time, less so. Tbf, if I could see it coming I suspect the opposition could too.
Very fine player for us. I prefer Galea's style, but I think he was of the same quality or as near as makes no difference. That was some good recruitment to get the pair of them!

| Looks like Sandy is going to maintain a 'huge' pack, with Dobbo and Blake pulling the strings at half backs. All we need is some 'genuine' pace in the backs and I reckon we will be worrying a few sides in 2013.

| Exciting signing i reckon. Plenty of NRL experience and coming across at a good age. Good to see that Craig Sandercock is now signing ex-Newcastle players aswell as current ones. Our net can now trawl wider.

Read what he put again, the swear filter substituted the C word with friend, so you're wrong again my friend.

If he was better than clint newton then someone in the NRL would have made him an offer that even warrington couldn't get near

| Quote: roopy "Cory is a great guy.
The Knights picked him up as a 16 year old fullback when he played for Western Australia in the emerging states tournament.
He played in the Newcastle Wests junior side that included players like Greg Inglis, Jarrod Mullen, Luke Walsh and 4 or 5 other future firstgraders.
He went on to play under 18s for NSW and in the Knights under 20s side of 2006 that dominated the comp and produced 13 firstgraders including Scott Dureau, Kade Snowden, James McManus and Aku Uate.
An odd fact is that an American football talent scout took Cory to America a few years ago and he spent a few months training as a kicker. He trialled with a few clubs but wasn't picked up.
Cory has a massive boot on him and smashes goal kicks from the sidelines, as well as having a kickoff that brings snow. He can kick an American football 70 metres on h fly and a league football 60 metres.
In the juniors he played a bit of centre and a few games at prop, but he is pretty much a wide running second row with a good passing game, a bit of speed, and the size to bust the line. He is also very good in the air and his best mate, Scotty Dureau, loved to kick for Cory to leap above the other forwards and score.
On the down side - he doesn't have a high workrate and can go missing in games. He has also had bouts of clinical depression, and one of the jobs Sanders had in his last year at the Knights was to get Cory back to firstgrade after a bout of depression. Cory says he is a muslim, but I believe that is just so he has a reason to not drink with his team mates, because drinking makes his depression worse.
Last year he was in the Aboriginal side in the Aboriginal/All Stars game, and he was one of the better players on the field in a game that showcased the best players in the NRL. After that he was talked about as a possible SOO player. Since then he has had more downs than ups and maybe the only coach who can bring him back to his best is Sanders. He was the first player cut by Wayne Bennett, I think because he was put in the 'too hard' basket by the incoming coach who had enough problems.'"
So apart from the fact he's unfit, goes missing during games and is a manic depressive, he's OK

How strange you should only notice the points in Roopys post from the paragraph starting "on the down side".
