| Quote: rover49 "No-one is too bothered about the odd poor decision, but today was about decisions he did NOT make rather than bad ones he MADE. He allowed Hudds to be offside every PTB (and only took them back about 8 metres), they were allowed so much laying on time I thought they might need a sleeping bag to keep them warm. All teams have had forward passes go against them, but the amount he ignored today was criminal, including two very obvious ones in the build up to Wilds try.
If you had been their, even with your B&W specs on you would have agreed that the level of competence he showed was probably around under 9's leagues.'"
Hudds are a physical team that come to spoil, been the same since Adam was a lad. You need a big bench and a gameplan to deal with it. Surprised Morgan got it so wrong as he's usually pretty good with the tactics. No need to have such a massive and personal tantrum after the game. Show a bit of dignity and get a meeting with the RFL this week with the appropriate video evidence. Done himself no favours at all with the public slamming of Thaler, especially as he's got previous for slating referees.

I do believe that last season they wouldn't have got away with half of it. But the stats show that refs are awarding only half the penalties this year than last. Great news for the spoilers.
Sooner or later if this is not stopped every team will follow suit. For the good of Super League as a whole the RFL must instruct referees to clamp down.'"
It's a tough balance between stopping teams getting away with stuff and awarding penalties, and letting the game flow.

What you do is 'ok lads, thats one offside, lets keep them to a minimum' then you penalise them, you dont just let it go for 80 minutes, it makes a mockery out of having rules.

Thaler kept a poor 10 metres but did it for both sides in fairness.
It looks as though Huddersfield have introduced the flat pass more into their game this year and that must be difficult to referee.
As ive said in another thread Thaler did miss two blatent forward passes but knock on's in the next tackle prevented them being major talking points.
I didnt see anything untoward with the tackle in which Lovegrove was injured.
Teams will seek advantages and its upto the referee to impose himself, if Hudds are guilty of laying on and getting away with it then more fool Rovers for not doing likewise.
Although i hope this is looked at more closely or it will promote the Aussie style of defence orientated games.
Having interviewed JM afterwards he was clearly very annoyed but he did credit Hudds for the win.
He obviously felt he needed to make a point but to describe it as a rant is just untrue.
When Thaler reffed the NRL Cup Final in 2005 between us and Cas in 2005 i thought he would kick on to be a really good official.
I dont think he has progressed enough to be considered a top referee yet.

| maybe we are "getting away with" laying on etc but the so called top four have been doing it for years and nothing said. as soon as its a so called bottom of the table side we are bad mouthed. only from the teams we beat mind not the ones we have lost to.
as for the "chicken wing tackle" one on the radio said it was a chicken wing the other said was nothing untoward. be interesting to see if its called up for disciplinary as i didnt see i cant personallly comment.
hope you have a good run for the rest of the season and show the so called top clubs we are all catching up with them!

| IF the RFL had anything about them and watched the video in its entirety then Thaler would be up before the court this week charged with impersonating a referee and the trading standards for dishonesty.
Perhaps he found the wrong profession in life and should have been a comedian....off the field, i mean.
TBH, even Hull Fc could have beaten us with this joker in charge.

A sensible post at last.
I am sure that refs this season are advised to be more tolerant at the tackle re slowing the game down. I have watched all the Giants games this season as well as many other teams. It is the same fort both teams. In SL it appears that there is an attempt to encourage a slower PTB ala Australia style which it is hoped will encourage more skilful play than quick play and running from Dummy half.
I do not really like it but have to get used to it, BUT it is the same for all teams. Morgans moaning was EXCATLY the same as NOBLES which was shot down on boots and All by Cullen, Eddie and Stevo.
As for the offside again i am sure refs are instructed to blkow less than previously. Most refs now take the teams back 12 metres and then let them encroach as the ball is played.
I am sure that most of you still hav eyour Godd Friday game taped. If so watch it again and tell me how many times HKR had all their players onside

| Penalty count was extremely low. Mr T hardly gave any penalties and what he gave were correct. He let the game flow - as he has done all season.
I'm sure that you lot are correct when saying that we were offside quite a lot. I'm also convinced that your team were far from angels and were also offside. However, being seated in the £20dump I have no way of telling.
Our holding down was shorter than most teams - and KR held down just as long/short.
The tackling issue has been all the way to Mr Cummings. Even Boots & All has done a feature on it. Nothing wrong. Absolutely nothing.
From what I have seen of Mr Thaler this season [twice before today] he treated us no different to the opposition, & the opposition no different to us. He lets the game flow - none of your stop/start Mr Ganson stuff - ignores the 'minor' offences but pulls up the 'major' ones.
He is by far the best referee I've seen for a long time.

| thaler is way better than the french ref who doesn't even seem to know the rules of the game. All refs seem to be less inclined to blow up this seaon. Did ganson give any penalties in the derby for offside?

If you're including Saints in that then you would be wrong. Saints' trademark under Daniel Anderson was a fast PTB, not giving the other side chance to get back 10 and leaving them with either a penalty against them or eating dust while we scamper off. A slow PTB is frustrating to Saints and we've had to adapt to it this season, which has spoiled our game certainly. But to win I guess teams have to adapt their playing styles according to their opposition either by playing them at their own game or by creating new ways of fooling/challenging them.

Somewhere in the dust of time rest the bones of the Galilean
He who was spat upon. He whose face was marred beyond all human likeness
Somewhere buried among the lies of the past rests the tomb of Yeshua
Of he who was made God in a world without Hope.
And when this son of Joseph is found. What then will the Church of Rome say?
Prepare yourself for the day is coming. And men will say
"Blessed are the wasted lives who perished in the flames of the holy war": |

Ah I see Saints don't hold down because they like to play off the back of a quick PTB. Hmm I think there may be just the slightest flaw in your logic there.
