Although it is to be increased to a 25/30 man squad over the next few months. |

Wake up son, it's not the final squad. It's an initial 17 Smith wants to work with first and none of them are guaranteed a place against France. Apart from the fact he's actually said as much, it's not difficult to work out is it? |

It's the 17 players who he see's at the moment as the best 17 players to play for England now and in the near future, hence the name 'Elite'.

It isn't a squad, that is clear now - it is a (first) group of elite players. They will form a core, from which teams are selected, with Lee Smith, Ade Gardener and a few more no-mark Wire players drafted in to make up the numbers when nobody is looking.
