We're getting stuff that's even tougher than the toughest laminate because he'll be coming straight off the street in his chair and into the house. You can get some really nice stuf. Although it's all really dishonest I'm afraid.

Laminate is specifically designed to give you the fundamental properties you would require from a floor, whilst still giving you a large choice of design, you can have a parquay floor without having to varnish it every year.

Well, I wouldn't have it in my kitchen (I have the original Victorian quarry tiles). But I can see it might look nice in a modernized or modern house and why some people would like it.

I wasn't using it as an example of what I liked - merely to illustrate an example of lino not being used to represent wood, stone, tiles or any other original medium.

The only point I'm making is if you want a wooden floor, polish the floorboards. It you want a stone floor, use, errm, stone.

Not some plasticky, pretend substitute.

If you want lino, laminate or Amtico, then great. But get a pattern that doesn't try to be something it isn't.

Mr Worm used to screed floors. That was aesthetically pleasing, tough and uncompromising. It didn't look like plastic planks, though.

Laminate is tougher than a polished floorboard and [ican[/i look alot nicer, I see where your coming from but your wrong on this, the whole point and idea of laminate is a success. I also believe that if you were to put tiles in an upstairs bathroom, as most people would want, you are stupid. They become loose no matter how good you are at laying them and present great difficulty of getting under the floor to, say, repair a leak. Lino, with a tile effect or even laminate, which now is available in tile effect would be more suitable.

They do something that may appease you, actual tiles fixed onto laminate boards, the idea is that you can lay your 'tiles' evenly spaced and perfectly even, when your happy, you grout the lot, quite clever.

Y'see, always talk to someone to someone in a trade who's intelligent and has a bit of taste.
It's not still the 1950's, things move on, new materials appear and evolve.

BTW, that Lino is still absolutely dreadful.
The only thing that's pretending to be, nay, achieving is looking hideous.

How can I be "wrong"? It's not a matter of being right or wrong, it's an opinion. Like saying wallpaper is wrong and panelling is right. Personal taste and all that.

I wouldn't dream of having a tiled bathroom floor. More polished wood, so you needn't try to 'appease' me. .

[iEveryone [/ihas laminate floors, as they have laminate worktops and plastic carrier bags. The world moves on, you'll be pleased to know they no longer make prosthetic limbs out of an old stool leg.
