| Over the years I spoke with him at a number of Rovers functions I can say that he is the most humble modest player I've ever chatted with always appreciated the fans. R.I.P the best Rovers player on and off the field.

| Condolences from Leeds. Wonderful player and a lovely man. One of the British greats. Hull KR's finest. A terrible loss. Will be sadly missed.

| That little man made East Hull and all those who support Hull KR feel good on so many occasions ......I wasn't even born when Hull KR beat our rivals Hull FC at Wembley in the Challenge Cup final, but my dad was there on that day and he says that it is one of the greatest days of his life .......Roger Millward gave him this wonderful memory and I am so grateful to him for doing so!
Even though I was too young at that time, I have grown up like so many Rovers fans to see Roger as a legend to us .......I managed to meet him a few times and he was such a kind and sincere man ......Not only was he one of the greatest rugby league players to have ever played the game, but he was also a true gentleman .......We will all miss him so much!
My dad always said that what he remembers most about Millward is how he would run into a pack of forwards, disappear, and then suddenly emerge on the other side .....Now that is someone truly befitting of the name "Dodger"! .......And, the other thing that my dad would always talk about that is often overlooked when we talk about the Dodger was his tackling technique .......Roger was such a little man, but he would always bring down the most biggest of forwards with such a perfect technique that many in the modern game should take note of.
RIP, little man ......You've made your mark on history .......You have gone down in history as one of the greatest half backs to have ever played the game and you will never be forgotten! ......RIP, Roger! .....Sleep tight and sweet dreams!

| A sad day.
So sorry to hear that Rovers greatest has passed.
As a youngster I first saw him in 67, in the midst of the Airlie Birds fallow period. I was amazed at just how good he was. He was one of the reasons I loved the game. Seeing exceptional talent like his was really something, he was on a different level.
So many times I just wished we had him.
He was the reason you had the greatest period in your History. A true Legend of the game.
RIP Roger Millward.
thanks for the memories....well some of em.

If Rugby League Rocks, then Hull KR is its Soul.: |

I like this idea, Goose. Is it worth setting up a Just Giving page, or is this Website for genuine charitable causes?
As I'm not on Facebook or Twitter or any of the new breed of social media, I don't know if such an initiative for a commemorative statue for Roger outside CP is underway.
Would appreciate your thoughts and those of our other fellow forumsters in this regard.
PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

| Having started watching Rovers in the early 70's, I can say without a doubt that Roger has been a hero of mine for a long long time. I would be more than happy to help in any way I can. It's a fantastic idea and one worthy of everyone's support.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

I don't do Facebook or any of that other stuff.
I've done some very, VERY, brief research and I think it would need to be crowd funded, again, I've done very brief research on that and I think it potentially could be a goer.
Obviously the club and first and foremost Roger's family would need to be aware and in agreement, with him being such a modest man maybe the last thing he would want would be something like this.
Perhaps we should just ideas here for now.

| I did look at setting up a Facebook page, just as a test but it was clearly way beyond me. I also think this should have a separate thread, this is for condolences.

| Rovers have retired the No.6 jersey indefinitely with immediate effect.
Campese will play No. 32 if he ever gets back on the pitch.

It's a nice gesture but it's not one I like. I don't think it sends a good message to the current and future players.
Statues, naming stands etc are more appropriate in my opinion.

"Leeds is the greatest club in Rugby League"
Alex Murphy 2011: |
|
| I've got Roger's autograph on a picture I cut out of a paper when I was 13 or 14. He was classed as a great player back then in the late 70's/early 80's, and he is still classed as a great player now by anyone who was lucky enough to see him. Regards from Leeds.

I don't think any player would take offence, it's more that it's subconsciously saying to any young stand off at KR that he'll never be as good as Roger Millward. I like that the shirt gets passed on to a new incumbent, who goes on to continue, and hopefully make, history at the club. It should be worn as a badge of honour and inspire the next player to wear the shirt instead in my opinion.
As I said it's a nice gesture, it's just a personal preference of mine that I don't like the retiring the jersey thing.
