| What I would say about Saints still wanting Long for another year is this;
If Saints really wanted to keep him then he would still be there next year. The reason they offered a one year deal, is that they knew he wouldn't accept it unless forced.
This was the best way for both the club and Long to save face. The club didn't seem to be throwing a legend on the scrap heap, and Long had a fall back offer if non suitable came along.
That said, I think this could be a very good signing for the darkside, but not in the way most of their supporters think.
He will be a massive improvment on what they currently have.
Yes, he IS a proven commodity and a game winner at the highest level in SL.
On the other side of the fence, FC do not have the players that could support Long and his style of play. Playing behind the saints pack is a totally different prospect to playing behind the current crap (opps crop) at FC.
When players get old the tend to have a slower recovery rate, and lets face it FC don't have the best record with injuries.
Worth a gamble though if you ask me, (I know you didn't) as they are very unlikely to sign anyone better in the forceable future.

Nobody is saying he is as good as he was 5 years ago, but he is still one of the best halfbacks in SL.
Better than most scrum halfs in SL.
We already look a lot stronger for next season.
I bet if you look at Lockyers stats over the past 10 years there has been a steady decline, but he would still be one of the best players in SL.

Good post, picked out the most important part.

As said, we shall see, I'm also not suggesting the bloke is rubbish, he just isn't as good as some are suggesting anymore.

Totally agree, as a short term move I think it's a good signing.
I for one wouldn't want rovers to sign Lockyers as he is not the type of player you can build a team around over the long term.
Long IS the best available ATM and if your board has spare cash then they could do far worse then him.

| Throw this one in the mix then, using the ever so reliable SL stats, Danny Brough is a better player than Sean Long.
Then consider which teams both play for, it underlines even more that Long, is old, over rated by Hull fans, and a lesser player to that of a Wakefield player, one that Hull got rid of, which makes it even more amusing.

| How come none of the people who were claiming Dobson has already signed are not on this thread saying the same?
Has their source at the club confirmed he is still to put pen to paper?
As Gordon Gekko said, agreeing and signing are two different things.
I hope Rovers can get it done asap.

Not fear at all its incredulity at you signing yet another pensioner on a last payday. He is still a reasonable player, but he has always played in a stable and quality filled team, how he will fair in another side, which is mediocre at best is something I am looking forward to seeing.
Hope you are playing games on Sunday afternoon next season as 8pm on Fridays will be too late for some of your 'senior' citizens

If he signs, great. If he doesn't sign, we move on and look elsewhere.
