| TBh the likes of Folau and inglis are built on pure size and strength rather than any great centre skills. I'm sure if Welham was 6ft 2" and 110Kg he would score a few more!
Pomeroy at Cronulla is more a skillful centre but the size and power of Folau and Inglis get them the spotlight.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there JB. Welham will never be recognised by fans of other clubs as a potential England centre because physically he doesn't stand out, they don't see enough of his play week to week to recognise how consistantly well he plays.
If Welham was 6' 2" and 110kg he would not have to score more tries, fans would look at him and marvel at how good he is.

Welham v Shenton,
Although i agree he looks a good prospect'"
Would've expected that tbh. Welham's done really well, but Shenton's the better player at the moment. Probably had a fair bit more game time over the past few years though which counts for a lot.

i think thats massively unfair on both players, in particular inglis. both players run fantastic lines and defend well. being superb athletes obviously helps, but what more do you want from a centre? Inglis has great hands and feet as well i my opinion, i remember him schooling gasnier several times in Origin II 2007(?) and we've seen him do it time and time again at every level.
and talking about prospects, isnt welham about the same age as inglis, and im sure falou is about two years younger!!!
I like welham, but i think he's way down the pecking order and has a lot to learn. I just hope all this rubbish isnt a distraction for him.

| He's a decent prospoect but touting him for an England call up is just another HDM non story. Anyway, he has to get past Yeaman, Hall and Briscoe to get anywhere near an England centre spot

| Quote Thetalentboy="Thetalentboy"Having played alongside Welham at Myton and know him well it would be great to see him get a England call up this season, i dont think he will get one for a good 3 or 4 years yet tho'"
Why wont he'If he carries on playing and improving at the rate he is doing then i think it will be virtualy impossible for Smith to leave him out of his plans,
My guess is he will get a call up within the next year.

Can't be that hard then; Yeaman is a snail (albeit a very strong one), Hall is flaky (even though he's a talent) and Briscoe has a lot to prove beyond busting tackles and showing physical strength in terms of being an international three-quarter.
As things stand Shenton should definately get the nod at left centre in the June test but I certainly think Whelam has a shot of playing for England in the future because his main strength - being a natural try scorer with a great reading of the game and that counts for a lot. I just think he needs to sort out his goal line defence.

| If what the press are saying obout him & others in our clubs Hull,s clubs could provide Englands back line probably one of the halves & at least one black & white in the forwards (dont think any of our forwards are there yet)
