Quote: General Zod. "Mickey Paea??

Obviously a massive loss for the club but we've already learned the hard way paying the likes of Vella and co 150K a season is a false economy because it restricts your capability of creating an environment of where you can create real and genuine depth in a squad because you have players coming primarily for the money and the younger players at the lower end of the squad playing for pittance - something Sandercock addressed as a main area for concern once he discovered the way Morgan had structured his wages towards the top and bottom of the squad.

The name of the game in a salary cap sport is signing (and retaining) the best players for the least money hence why the top clubs are where they are. Kevin Sinfield said a couple of seasons ago that many of the Leeds squad had turned their back on offers of more money at other clubs to stay at Leeds because they wanted to have a genuine chance to win silverware; an environment you can only create by developing your own players so they are prepared to stay at the same club for 10 years or so to enable continuity and thus a low player turn over.

Back on to Paea, one thing I did notice about Paea this year though, is that his best form was very dependent on which hooker was distributing the ball to him i.e. the Hodgson/Paea combo worked best and he did not seem to attain the same performances when Carlile was at dummy-half (no disrespect to Keal) and considering Houghton is one of the most overrated, one trick pony and one dimensional hookers in SL, I'm not convinced Paea will hit the same heights he did whilst playing for us. Besides, your pack gets bullied that easily the pressure on him will be immense.'"

So which are rovers doing? They are spending within £70k of the cap but have a skinny squad, are paying big bucks to the likes of burns, Dobson and Paterson and are losing their best players because other clubs are coming in with better offers.

And £150k for paea? Surprised we can afford it when we're allegedly paying £150k for McDonnell and £200k for ellis

Under the previous regime some of our young players training with the full-time squad were getting paid absolute pittance where as now they're getting a liveable wage.

Rovers still pay players "big bucks"; i.e. up to 120K per year (Paea was offered 130K but this was mainly reward because of he's been an ever present for 2 seasons) he's but they aren't prepared to pay "mega bucks" i.e. 160K per year to Ellis and 150K plus incentives to Mickey Paea to take his salary to 170K a year. The difference between both clubs offers is two young prospects who may turn out to be players top players who serve for the club for a decade - this is how Leeds have done their business for years and it's paid dividends for them with silverware.

Anyway, it doesn't bother me if you pay the likes of Ellis 160K, McDonnell 130K and Mickey Paea 150K plus incentives which could take his salary to 170K because your so called youth system is disintegrating as there's hardly any local players who have come up through your system recently who are playing at your club or have moved on to other clubs and you've basically resorted to buying in youngsters from elsewhere ; i.e. Cas, York etc.

The result of this is that Gentle has signed a bunch of players up for long contracts which leaves little room for maneuverability to amend the squad and given that your squad has a distinct lack of top-end quality you'll be kicking around 6th/7th finishes for years to come.

Gentle said Hull FC would be a top two club in 3 years from the moment he arrived and he will fail because he's an overrated coach with third-rate attacking systems and no capacity to improve players.

Aside from Green, Bowden, Crooks, Shaul, Cunningham and Hadley in the last year or so.

When are we moving to Costello, by the way?

Crooks is a Cas lad - he didn't grow up in Hull you know.

Green has got a 3 year deal for you but he wouldn't have got that at Rovers because he lacks physical presence for his size in the same way that our young forwards such as Adam Walker, Cox and co have.

Bowden, Cunningham and Hadley are token players and there's no indication so far that they have the potential to be long serving great players.

Shaul looks to have something about him but I doubt Gentle will be able to develop him to his potential.

If you want. We were rubbish but still managed to score 6 tries to 5. Shame holdsworth can't kick but in the scheme of things it's irrelevant as we won't win the com anyway

And the worst part of all that is you actually believe it. Why are your young players leaving for other clubs if you're offering them such a great wage? If Hull are paying players so poorly then why aren't they leaving?

You're wrong about pretty much everything you post on here. I'd give it up as a bad job if I were you

crooks is from ponte.

Your club looks on with envy at the Hull youth set up but as you know nothing about the internal workings at your club you won't know that.

Anyway, this thread is about paea and you've already proven you know nothing about that situation so maybe you shouldn't post on here again

Strange that, he went to school with and lived near my mrs who lived in Hull until we got married.
