Wes Naiqama seems to have lost a bit of pace imo. Didn't Justin try to sign him 4-5 years back? Would prefer Junior Sau but guess he'll sign for another NRL side. Shannon to stay with Kevin Naiqama on the right wing would be good.

If I were picking over the players Wayne has decided to cut from the Knights and looking for some cheap prospects i'd go Kev Naiqama and Zane Tetevano.

Kev is behind several rep players so he has only got a few games of firstgrade in 3 years, but in that time he has been one of the leading try scorers in reserve grade, with just under a try a game for the last 3 years. He is a short guy who looks like he would be a liability in the NRL, but he is a ball of muscle and over 90kg, and he can jump. He would want the same sort of money McDonnell is on this year or less, and he is years younger than McDonnell.

Zane is a giant 22 year old prop who got about 10 games of firstgrade last year and was a regular firstgrader by the end of the season under Rick Stone. He is mostly a prop now, but can be a rampaging 110kg, 6'5" second rower too. Wayne is trying to build a team of boring white guys who tackle for 80 minutes, so he has no use for a giant 40 minute impact impact prop or 60 minute wide runing backrower. Because he has had no firstgrade this year he would be cheap as well.

Old guys like Wes, Junior, Richie Fa'oaso and Ervan Tuimavae would all want big money and probably think they are going over there to retire.

I'm a boring white guy, but in my defence I would struggle to tackle a snot block.

O/T I see Newcastle have had a poor start, is there impatience with Bennett? I guess you're not too impressed from the above - boring and winning is one thing but boring and losing is no fun.

Btw, if you like missed tackles, have you considered subscribing to HKRTV? Had 3 on the top 5 practioners in SL, early in the season. Won 6 of the last 7, but haven't abandoned our principles completely.

Bennett has torn the heart out of this year's player group by basically making it clear to popular players Hilder, Taia, Fa'aoso, Tetevano, Sa'u, Naiqama, Tuimavae that they aren't wanted because they don't play the style of football he wants them to play.

All those boys thought they could play well and get in his good books in the early rounds, and we were going OK, but in the last 5 or 6 weeks the boys are just going through the motions and looking for a ticket on the first bus out of town. Zeb Taia signed for Catalans, and it's clear that Wayne wants to off load at least 2 contracted players by June 30 so he can bring up some juniors.

This year is over because the coach has virtually told a third of the team to pack their bags as soon as they can.

On the plus side, we have a fantastic group of 18/19 year olds who are all signing up for the next few years.

It's pretty clear that he doesn't like the impact type players that Polynesians generally are. You can count on a butcher's fingers the number of Polynesian forwards he has had in his sides over the last 20 years. He has had a few Melanesian guys like Petro and Neville Costigan, but Willie Mason joins a very select group of polynesian forwards Wayne has signed.

So far at the Knights he has sacked Mika, Kaufusi, Tuafua, Karawana, Taia, Aolaomi and demoted Tetevano, Sa'u, Naiqama, Tuimavae, Filipo, and is off loading Likiliki and Kev Naiqama.

On the plus side - only one of those guys is from Newcastle - and the guys he is trying to sign mostly are.
