Personally I thought a lamp was the whole fitting/object and a bulb was what you put in a lamp. Anyway if you insist I'm wrong then I'll accept that.

Language is flexible. The rule against splitting an infinitive isn't even really a rule... depending on how you define 'rule'. Standardised spelling is relatively recent - we still haven't definitively chosen between standardised and standardized.
Those are my excuses, anyway. |

A light bulb is a specific "lamp", named so because of its shape. It's perfectly acceptable to be called such, however, you wouldn't have much luck going into an wholesalers and asking "can I have a light bulb for my floodlights?".
