Quote: Mild Rover "I feel for London too. They’ve outperformed most peoples’ expectations by a sizeable margin and done it with a really good spirit and a real team effort. Huge credit to Danny Ward and his squad. Shown up a few teams as well, frankly, including Rovers.

The difficulty for them is that team will be broken up. The team of the man who I think might just pip Ward to coach of the year, Ian Watson, is also losing key players. It is tough on a tight budget but they seem to have embraced that and made the best of it, and a single good season stays in the record books and is still worth it for the memories.'"

To be fair, a few are leaving you guys, but I get the feeling Smith would have been able to keep them if he wanted to. I wanted Wakefield to go down, too many years of lies about a new ground etc.

Can you explain it to me and Tony Smith then as he certainly thinks London going down is more than just, and so do I , but feel free to suggest who should have gone down instead as I am intrigued to know who icon_confused.gif:

Do you mean we’re losing players we’d have wanted to keep? Or that there are some we could keep but we’re choosing not to?

If the former...
Atkin maybe, but an Atkin-Abdull hb combination wouldn’t be exactly frightening opponents. I don’t think another season of playing back-up is what Atkin needs, and I suspect being back on the other side of the Pennines suits him. Drinkwater might have been better bedded in and with a pre-season under his belt, and his injury record stands in stark contrast to many of our players. Non-fed status likely counted against him if it was Rovers’ choice, our not being able to offer job security if it was his - it’d be a close call as to which is more likely and it’ll be interesting to see where he is in 2020. After that, there are some good lads who can help fill out a SL squad or be high-end Championship players, but none with a really compelling reason to retain them, other than ‘is there better available to us?’. We are where we are for a reason.

I think the difference from Salford and London is that our team and in some ways even the culture needs, if not breaking up, then at least shaking up.

Feeling sorry for London's relegation is a different issue to feeling some other club should have been relegated. London were relegated because they finished in 12th place. Suggesting a different team as you
want me to do is pointless. If you cannot see this maybe you should spend less time with Spregs.

The commiserations bit I concur with, however the undeserving bit I was asking why as with the free hits on saints academy surely distorts the table somewhat don’t you think? , me and Tony think so.

Im glad thats over, im glad weve stayed up but if we had of gone down i for one wouldnt have pointed the finger at Londons four points from the weakened Saints sides, we should have been safe weeks ago but for some reason the team has bottled it over and over again.
I feel for London as they were given no chance of staying up before a ball had been kicked but weve seen what good coaching and the right attitude can do, to be still in with a chance shows that gave it a good go, its just a shame that there team will likely be broken up now.
As for Rovers we somehow need to fix up the inconsistency issue, maybe its a mental thing who knows. Recruitment will be interesting and should give us an idea about next seasons ambitions too.
I think Tony Smith will improve us and hopefully a good preseason under him will see benefits.

Wondering the same myself. I haven’t really dared/bothered to thinking about 2020 until now - I might start a thread in a bit.

Wouldn’t be all that surprised if Tony Smith doesn’t know at this stage. Tricky to sort out when you’re teetering on the brink.

Just hope that we get a running half. Two ball playing halfs is fine up to a point but if they offer the same plays I think it,s a position wasted. A real running threat always causes problems for opposition defences and seems to be something we have lacked for too long.
Showing my age but wish we could find a Steve Hartley (late 70,s early 80,s) type of stand off. Yes, the game has changed but he was a real threat from deep and when was the last time we had a half who could go 70-80 yards.
Whoever we get, it needs to work next time. Will Tony Smith try Mikey Lewis or is it too early.
Just hope we don,t have to go through this purgatory of trying to survive next season.

Loved Steve Hartley but I do not think it’s to early for Mikel Lewis he is the sort of player we need

Depends on how many non fed places you have, hard to find a English half, the only ones I can think of are Ellis, Patton, Hampshire and Richarson who might be available.

Rumored to have signed a young halfback on loan from Leeds, this would leave you with very inexperienced halfs.

Not as rumours, just the types of players who might be available, i’ve seen Matty Smith, Kevin Brown, and Richie Myler mentioned. Don’t know which if any of them are ooc, but I can imagine their clubs being open to a release anyway. Which tells its own story.

Of all the above, Richardson at least has youth and potential to improve on his side. Is he rumoured to be available? Myler will know Tony Smith well but Leeds fans have been less than enthused with his performances.
