Quote: SirStan "Fair enough. He hasn't just "played" though has he? He has captained his side to win everything available in 2015, plus he's the most successful captain in his club's history. Whether he actually deserves it is not entirely the question, as it becomes hugely subjective. The fact he was put on the shortlist was all the incentive I personally needed to grab an opportunity to push our sport on a national stage.'"
He probably deserved a lifetime achievement award tbf, great ambassador for the sport and a very good loser (not that he' had much practice) as well as winner. Think overall it was a fair result and a great bit of publicity for the sport. Think its a bit of a shame Greg Rutherford didn't do better , Olympic, world , European and commonwealth champion is one hell of an achievement for a guy who was classed as a bit of a fluke when he won in London.
I would temper the positives tho that when St's won team of the year it didn't cause too many ripples outside of the sport itself. Shame really as it does seem to be such a difficult task spreading the game even when positives get thrown at the sport.
