| Quote: hkrdavidhkr "just had a similar arguement with my father who is staunch fc, and he too is of the the opinion that we made our own bed and should lie in in it.
this is a all too common attitude, one which i believe to be wrong.
anything that contributes to making the city of hull better should be fully supported.
and having 3 top flight teams(or close to in city`s case) should be maintained and have backing,
city failed in their first foray in the prem for a few reasons, but some of which was the backroom politics that control our city.
hundreds of thousands was spent and wasted on a huge big screen tv(now removed)
hundreds of thousands was spent on daft 2ft high frogs..... Why?
the list can go on and on as where money is wasted .'"
Council didn't pay for these it was a private investor i believe

Fibreglass toad row
Fibreglass toads are coming to town.
A ROW has erupted over plans to spend £200,000 worth of taxpayers' money on 100 fibre-glass toads in Hull.
The model toads will be placed around the city later this summer as part of a festival marking the 25th anniversary of the death of poet Philip Larkin.
Most of the funding for the £290,000 toad project is being met by Hull City Council with a one-off £200,000 grant.
For the same money the local authority could afford to repair 3,500 potholes.

They didn't lay out the cash after the uproar caused by the HDM article you've quoted and it was funded by the private sector. AFAIK

| Quote: Mild Rover "The point about the KC stadium being a money spinner for the council strikes me as a bit disingenuous. When will the council start to see a profit on their initial 40-odd million pound investment? To Baristarize you - was there a compelling business case?
it was stated in the HDM a few years ago that the council actually pay rent for their facilities at the KC, i.e. they rent offices in the ground they own...you really coulden't make the public sector up!

I can't remember ever quoting you as you seldom post anything stupid. Oh, apart from telling me I was fibbing about enjoying reaching a major final.

My memory isn't that great (but I've got a feeling that was taken out of context).
However, rather than have it dug up again I'm going to be magnanimous and concede that I really was very silly in suggesting you didn't enjoy a major final.
OK?

It really wasn't out of context. I loved that day out, much better losing at Wembley (maybe it's the familiarity) than at Old Trafford. I'd like FC to win the grand final one day, but the cup final as an occasion is much better IMO. With or without toads.

The way i understand it is that the council was going to pay, however in the 11th hour they pulled there funding and a private investor stepped in to pay

| Quote: hkrdavidhkr "a typically naive and shortsighted view as expressed by most that support one side or another.
well not to burst your bubble but can you tell me how many stadiums are already in hull?
now do think long and hard on this one
i know of 3 at the very least at this present moment in time... how many can you come up with.'"
There is one. The KC STADIUM. I also know of a Craven PARK.
If you want to include Costello I will admit Hull can cope with 1 proper stadium and one dump but three is not needed.
The fact is Rovers need to fund their own expansion not the people of Hull.
I am glad my Council Tax goes towards nice flowers in Hornsea and an excellent bench in Hedon which I like to sit on and have a sly smoke when my missus thinks I am out walking the dog. That is what public money is for, not for a private business.
End of story (unless you are a little slow on the uptake of the facts regarding how the KC Stadium came about).

Millions, if not billions of public money is spent every year in the UK on private businesses by both local and national government. This is hardly a new phenomenon.
