Here is the RFL disciplinary decision.
Decision On Charge
Player plea Not Guilty
Summary of CM's submissions on the Charge / evidence Following a Match Review Panel meeting on 20 September 2009, the player was charged with misconduct for a breach of Law 15.1(i) during the above Match. The Panel reviewed an incident that occurred in approximately the 30th minute of the above Match. The Panel considered whether in tackling an opponent Gene had used a technique that placed undue pressure on the face of an opponent. The Panel believed that Gene used his fingers in the face of his opponent as a lever to attempt to push the player onto his back. The Panel were also concerned that the use of the players facial in this manner was unnecessary, as the tackle had been completed and his opponent was in a vulnerable position. . The Panel believed that this tackle had the potential to cause an opponent injury. In accordance with the RFL’s On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the Panel consider that such offence is a Grade C offence
Summary of Player's submissions on the Charge / evidence Justin Morgan on bbehalf of the player. Brian McLennan - on behalf of the player. Justin would disagree with the fact that the opponents face has been used as a lever. He feels that Stanley had used his opponents face and 'core' to try and turn his opponent onto his back. The referee had not signalled that the tackle was complete which is why other players were not back in position. Stanley are trying to hold the player up and stop him getting a quick play the ball. There is no possible way to turn the player onto his back by using pressure on the face pulling him over therefore Stanley must not have used his fingers except the flat of his hand around the face area to drive his opponent over. Stanley - this is the first time he's been called before the disciplinary for such an offence n. He had no intention other than to tackle his opponent but found it difficult to get him on his back. Stanley understood a Gouging would be to stick fingers in his opponents facial orifices and doesnt feel he has done this. There is nothing other than Brent Webbs own legs which are stopping him from rolling over. The contact was flat palm to face and Brent Webb was trying to stand up and was himself partly to blame for causing the facial.
Decision Guilty
Reasons for Decision There is clear evidence to us that you were using your opponents face as a pivot
Sanction 1 match ban and £300 fine
Though think its now just a £500 fine !
Now do one toe rag! By the way which team do u support?

Disgraceful for a rugby player to do that to one of his opponents.
I've always had a lot of time for Stan, but after seeing that he's gone well down in my estimation.'"
Now Darrell. I know for a fact that your eyesight's rubbish!

| Not much worse than the Leeds players trying to rive the face off Welham when he had the ball reefed for their second try.
