| Fantastic news especially having seen Swansea's bid. Well done to all those concerned in the process.

| Quote: barham red "Great for the City, hopefully this can be a turning point and we can see some well-placed investment. This award was a real turning point for Liverpool and that has become a real go to place since, definitely a big pat on the back to the team who achieved this.'"
To be fair, Liverpool won the European award, ours is a little less significant. However, the rest of your point stands up hugely. It's up to the city to kick on and make the most of this. Initiatives such as Freedom Festival & The Humber Street Sesh have shown the way. I consider myself totally devoid of culture, but this excites me.
Big well done to the people involved in this bid.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

| Great news for the city.
I went to Swansea Bay once, I saw three cidered up tramps (two male, one female) having a threesome on the beach.
Good times.

| Great news - fantastic to see Hull really selling itself, in a positive way.
And there really is plenty to be proud of - Ferens Art gallery and some very fine museums spring immediately to mind. I'm fond of Leicester, but in that regard it can't compete.
Dundee was eerily quiet the one time I went. Swansea - maybe just a bit too much of a South Wales (London)Derry equivalent? With bonus drunken al fresco unconventional couplings... triplings?

| Fantastic news, i watched the live announcement this morning on BBC 24 with baited breath hoping it would be Hull but expecting Swansea bay or Leicester.
This will hopefully put Hull on the map and shut up the knockers, especially those idiots from channel 4 who slagged the city off without even bothering to pay the city a proper visit.
I noticed that when watching Sky after the announcement was made, the sky announcer, Eamonn Holmes commented that he had never been to Hull, where upon Michelle Dewberry said that she would be happy to show him around the City any time.

| Heard the news on Radio 2 while driving up the A1 this morning, Chris Evans went into Hull mode and started playing FYC's, Housemartins and Lena Lovitch (never knew she was from Hull) as well as a top ten run down of facts about the city. Good to see us having some national coverage that is positive for once.

Lena Lovitch came from America to live in Hull when she was 13 years old

Remember these 2 little beauties on the 13th?
Quote: Billy Batten "Excellent video but unfortunately the city does not have the infrastructure or to determination of the right people to steer us towards winning capital of culture.'"
Quote: Billy Batten "What a load of $ollocks. Liverpool was already light years ahead of the game before they won it.
The regeneration of the city was in full swing and they built on their strengths and heritage. Big names wanted to be part of it and continue to do so.
Take a trip to Liverpool and ask yourself if we can compete with what they have, the answer is no.
I am not kncking Hull, but as I pointed out, we do not have the people in charge who can take the city in the direction required and build upon our own history and heritage.
Look at the docks area - what a state. Grimsby got the fishing heritage.... they are a back water compared to Hull. There is no vision or desire to take this city forward and I cannot see that changing in the near to mid future.
From the minute the judges drove down Clive Sullivan way and saw the Lord line building they would have made their minds up.
We are a sattelite city and the major investment required will not be forthcoming.'"
Then funnily enough you stopped posting on the thread after Hull won.
Fancy doing that here?

They only wanted the UK city of culture title. Build a concert arena and you're looking at world awards
