Not sure, but I believe Kirk Dixon had the same problem last year, out for a while.

There are various other drugs that may be as effective and could get him on the field quicker. I am currently in pot and have blood thinners to take, but they are all short term effect. The main thing is to bust the clot and then look at whether it is the result of trauma or whether long term management is needed.

It's a tough thing to happen to someone who makes a living from contact sport.

Not only that but you bruise like a Edit-AS very easily

A relative of mine was on Warfarin and ended up suffering internal bleeding from knocking herself in a swimming pool, ended up needing Vitamin K to thicken the blood again as her kidneys couldn't cope with the thinned blood. Not as straight forward as someone on here seems to think, especially in an impact sport like ours!!

Im not sure myself, im just wondering, is it the same as a Hematoma, or is that something completely different?.

Thats more of a bloody big bruise, think thats outside the veins

i have a dvt (diagnosed last February) apparently it can be caused be vigorous exercise (lots of people get them after the gnr the quack told me) as it can tear the middle valve in your calf that stops the flow. I had never felt pain like it literally was crawling on the floor to the toilet etc because just couldn't.put any weight on it at all. That lasted a few days after i started the warfarin my calf is still swollen (probs always will be) i am still on the warfarin indefinitely & tbh it wouldn't suprise me if he never plays again,a brisk walk.in the park with my daughter & i can feel it tightening up so god only knows how he could play rugby. Saying that hope the lads ok & makes a speedy recovery.

Think it depends on where the clot is - deep down in the veins in the leg or more superficial which is easier to treat
