I think the Rovers staff were being cautious with Briscoe for that very reason.

I don't think for one second Rovers would wrap him in cotton wool to protect his international chances.

No, but we've seen players come back from injury not 100% (Cooke, Chev, Webster etc...) and you only have to look at what happened with Paul White to know that sometimes the risk just isn't worth it.
