Quote: Digger_the_Dog "No Chris Stephenson? What a joke. The best 6 in Hull for years including when Mark Hewitt came back to Amateur'"

Stephenson has been without doubt the best amateur off half in this city for the past few years and, in my view, didnt get a fair crack of the whip when he was Rovers.
However, having seen him recently he looks a shadow of his former self and isnt a patch on Matty Danville at the minute.

are you off your head? stephenson is one of the best half backs in the amature game and he wont look a patch when he's been playing injured (also the reason he aint playing at the moment). also cant see how martin johnson has missed out. but i think you could go on all day about what amature side you could put out there as hull is a hot bed for amature rugby league

Its another mis-leading tag from the Mail.

The printed team is who Jon Mattos THINKS should be in the team. Its not yet been picked.

The team is to be picked by Andrew Webster.

Guess you've never been to watch a an amateur derby match. Eccles is a decent player but goes missing when the going gets tough. Certainly not a stand-out back rower in any of the derby matches I've seen him play in. This type of game is going to be physical and would not suit him IMO.

I would put the following in the back row before Eccles;

Mark Spence
Wildbore
Sam Radford
Ash Johannessen
Craig Bassett
Luke Brindley
Ian Madley
Rich Dunham

One of the most under-rated players in the amateur game IMO. Always seemed to get overshadowed by Danny Hill but has a great deal to offer. Would like to see him given a shot although not seen much of him lately so who know's how he's playing???

I'm lead to believe Ian has been out for the past year or so and has a knee reconstruction.

Very hard working player who if compared to a pro probably does a similar job to Lee Radford/Jason Netherton. Nothing too eye catching but graft like hell. People who know the game see the hard work they put in. Many supporters don't. But the teams suffer when they are missing for sure.

Is that the same Phil Hasty that played for us ?

Be interesting to see how he fairs if it is, especially with all the ones who reckoned we should have kept him.

Having seen Phil Hasty play for East Hull a few times on my rounds watching amateur rugby I have to say on his day he looks a class apart at that level.

But there are a number of other players who can play to his level too.

Good enough for SL ?? Not a chance. Although he'd probably do a decent job at NL2 or even NL1 at a push.

Have to agree with the comments about Danville from Skirlaugh.

Looks to be on top form this season and has returned from his time with York a better player.

Lee Roberts has to be considered for Prop consistantly solid every week for East Hull.

Brett Turner should be in and around the 7 shirt he was quality and thought he was a bit unlucky to get released by Hull IMO, seems to be doing well at West Hull this season aswell

the only problem with a game like this is the amount of time training together the amatuer lads would get together.
