Quote: Mild Rover "Yeah, I broadly agree with that.
Replacing Morgan and getting a development remit was never going to be easy. And he's not had much luck. The work he's done/doing putting systems in place - you'd think 3 years would be enough to get them in place, if not yet bearing fruit.
He never quite gets enough runs on the board, but we're never bad enough for quite long enough (IMO) to get shot.
I'd be okay, if not exactly enthused, by his getting another year. In the hope that this is 'his 2008' and that next year with a squad that has had a chance to gel we can climb the table.
Chester for 2015 or 2016, in a managed transition would get my vote. I'm not a fan of change for changes sake, but sometimes things need freshening up.'"

I'm all for loyalty but it has to be earnt and deserved. I think he has had enough time and been given the chance to build his own team, but unfortunately we haven't moved forward. To me another year would be more blind faith than belief that he has proven he deserves it.

The one thing in his favour is that the players seem to like him, just last week Justin Poore was praising him on twitter. The fact that i see that as the main positive tells a story. Plus if they do like him and want to play for him then it doesn't translate onto the pitch most of the time.

We have seen a lot of bad years and we should be extremely grateful for Hudgell and where we are now compared to even 10 years ago. Every decision up to this point has been positive, ambitious and nobody has had too much to grumble about on the whole. But this is the first time it could be seen as a lack of ambition perhaps and not go down well with the supporters.

Let's hope if CS signs the new deal he proves the doubters like me wrong the rest of this year and next season. We have to stick behind the team for now and not turn on them and start a witch hung for Sandys head. Not yet anyway!

Maybe but when they say their is a contract for him to sign is it to be the first team coach or to bring the kids threw like the job he had in OZ you never know if so good,if not bad

Betts has made visible steady progress over 3 years at Widnes and Powell has worked wonders at Cas in a year. If a SERIOUS contract is on offer then I'd say Hudge has accepted we will never go above being a mid table club, unless... He is going to pump as much cash as possible into establishing a thorough and well resourced academy. I suppose we shall all know in the next few weeks.

See that's interesting. Are we to believe we cant attract the very top notch players due to our location? in that case is Hudge saying to Sandercock the money is going into the academy, find them, nuture them and bring them through. Then we'll make them an offer too good to go.

Next year is crucial, we cannot afford to be out of the 8 when the split happens, we only need to get Thaler or Hick and were doomed to the 2nd tier.

I think we are more than capable of getting ourselves relegated without relying on others.

I've seen the under 19's a few times. There's a few good larkers, but no one really that makes you stand up and take notice. So if they are going all out to bring the youth, then the under 16's seems a formidable team that could be natured. But that's a few years away yet. I'd give sandy that job, but good god, get someone else in that can do the first team. He's had a go, failed, so let's try another avenue.

Pearson will be pi$$ed off seeing as winning derbies was one of his aims for his new local team for local people agenda if I remember correctly.

Quote: Hessle rover "For me, this is terrible news. For the first time, I've really got to question Hudge's motives for giving him another year. IMO, this would be bad news for the club.'"

Perhaps Hudge is seeing the bigger picture, and what goes on behind the scenes, just saying perhaps.

It would seem that Sandy is staying for another year at least, so be it.

It must be admitted that it is very unlikely he would have been granted such patience at most clubs. Especially with the new structure next year where 9th & below have to scrap for Super League survival in a 7 game mini league.

Don't want any of that thank you, but that's been our level under Sandercock and if the new structure was here this season then it would be a very real prospect.

People have scorned the new structure for next season but having seen Leigh take Leeds all the way and Featherstone the new cashed up wannebe's, it means that finishing 8th is upgraded from being fairly irrelevant to being crucial to the very future of the club.

What has to be factored in is the root & branch overhaul of all rugby matters from top to bottom being undertaken by Craig Sandercock. Sandy's immense knowledge, intellect and work ethic make him virtually irreplaceable for this task and 2 years and a half into the project it would be shattering to call a halt and go back to square one.

So often sporting clubs are scorned for their lack of patience with managers and coaches. Craig Sandercock is exceedingly lucky that Rovers are bucking the trend but that is the path the club have chosen. Having gone this far down the road it would be criminal not to see it through.

Could you tell me Bob what the guy has done behind the scenes, as I only see what is in front of me? Are you happy at the way our team I performing under Sandy after 2 1/2 years?
You are bang correct with that last comment. He has been incredibly lucky to have kept his job.

Do you proof read this e or is it worse, you actually believe it? Immense knowledge and intellect, aye - that explains how it's always someone else's fault we lose.

What experience does sandy have of root and branch overhauls at rugby clubs?
