Mr Sheens, who co-incidentally oversaw the Australian team lose 2 four nations tournaments and is in possession of a 50% win record over his career despite having had every advantage possible, chooses to play as many props as anyone can fit into 17 players, 6 today in a loss to the admittedly world class Halifax championship side and to play safety first rugby even against teams made up entirely of players who only train every other Monday...
It has been like watching paint dry the entire season...for all his faults Justin Morgan would have had his team winning with panache by 80...
Either RL or Rovers are/is on a perennial down-slope never to exit or Sheens (and Hudgell/Crossland...the Larvin excitable/psychometric testing gurus,/Kris Keating signing/Scott Murrell disposing genius titbrains ) are wizards...discuss...'"
Slight overreaction

| The word boring is not one I would use. Frustrating, strange , weird are closer to the mark. If you found this season boring then you are watching the wrong sport or, (as I have posted before) the rules, coaching & officiating of the modern era have taken away much of what made our sport great with no competition for the ball in open play. But that is another topic for another day. I share the OP's frustration with the team & have no idea or expectations going into the next 7 games? but it wont be boring.

| Peter Mannion sums up the frustration that has been building up for weeks now, so I understand why he has exploded after yesterdays abject performance.
There's a school of thought that the big names in the squad will turn the mythical FORM tap on, and I am afraid this appears to be all we are left with. All our eggs in the one basket. For all of Sheens' tinkering, it seems to me he has tinkered away what form and confidence we saw in the Challenge Cup ties.
There's an eerie inevitability about recent performances; we are following the Leigh model of 2015 NOT 2016!

| Everybody get a grip two defeats in two meaningless games when it's mattered we've performed look at the London game they are the second best team but we blew them away inside 30 mins it's been a mish mash of teams we've put out in the last couple of weeks playing against two teams who were in the last chance saloon I don't know what everybody expected

One of the main points being that is is not just "the last couple of weeks" is it..??
Please point me in the direction of an outstanding performance this season...
Please remember we are spending hundreds of thousands more than even our nearest rival and probably a million more than some...

| Daft decisions by the players have cost us recently, but they have been doing it for a long while. Admittedly all teams at some point do stupid things but we seem to do more than most, or am I imagining it because I see my team doing it? I don't think so.
We at times seem to make crazy decisions and make frustrating errors again and again. Kicking out on the full, putting the ball dead from the kick off, constant dropping the ball, making suicide passes in our own half and gifting the opposition possession.
These things will kill us in the middle 8,s and must stop.
Can we do, yes we can..but must get the error count down!

I can understand your frustration & I can't give an example of an outstanding game this year. But just because we have more cash than others is no guarantee of success, I could write a 10 page thesis on where our game is going, but the main point is the numbers playing the game have gone down year on year we can only sign those who are out there, look at the local leagues all struggling to get teams out at all age groups & don't start me on sport in schools. I struggle to see a team out there just a group of individuals with only one real leader (not playing yesterday) Halifax are a team with heart, so are wakey & cas we don't seem to be. But it will be interesting to see how the next weeks pan out. I have not given up hope yet.

Although the last few games have been disappointing and most of the season has been at best a bit of a foregone conclusion I just cant see the parallels with Leigh 2015.
The were blowing teams away and playing expansive exciting rugby, come the play offs when ball retention became more critical they blew up. The 2016 Leigh team were a more drilled side with lots of SL experience and that saw them through

That's the thing we haven't had to be outstanding in this league we haven't put in an 80 minute performance because we really haven't had to it was job done against London so the players dropped off a bit I'd be worried if Leigh or Salford would have hammered us but they didn't I think the players prefer to play SL opposition as they can play the game how they want as oppose to the away game to swinton when they just tried to spoil and fight

MIKE SMITH- THE BEST CENTRE HULL HAS EVER MADE!: |
|
| some good points both ways on this one , but in my opinion srum half is a big problem to us and has been all year, in hindsight we should have tried to recruit a top notch half from day 1 (easier said than done I know) instead of loading up with second rate props ,weve been fine at hooker ,although it is harder to get to drop a level we do give out generous contracts to some average players

Maybe Atkin & marsh will come good but at the moment they are just learning the game. As many have said we need a steady heads at 6 & 7 in the next few weeks but we just don't have them. I do rate Abdul & I hope we gat him back soon. Let's take care of next year later.

| I've said it before and would love to be proved wrong, but Marsh in the halves, no thank you. Anonymous in too many games. Atkin has had one game in a beaten team. I know we don't have time to wait and see, and agree that we miss Abdull badly, but we have what we have.
Hope the team have some fire in their bellies when the 8,s start and give 80 minute performances. The crowd can play their part and make it hell for the opposition, just hope the team do as well and give no quarter to the enemy.
COYR!!

That's a fair assessment of our 2015 vs 2016 sides. Though I think our side last year evolved as the year went on. Chase and Brierley out and Drinkwater in gave us that extra direction from half back. That and Ridyard showing enough form to keep Burns out the team is what ultimately got us through.
Personally I don't think we're as strong this year as last. Maitua or Worthington haven't been effectively replaced down our left edge, and we seem light in the front row with Weston's retirement and Acton's "enforced break".

You're also going into it with a slightly different set of pressures on you. it'll be interesting to see how it plays out , I personally think Leigh look stronger both physically and mentally than Widnes.
