| Quote: Beverley Robin "Unproven head coach given a 3 year deal? Bonkers. Haven't seen anything yet on the pitch to suggest he's worth that. In fact I feel we've gone backwards since sandy left. Feel a bit sorry for sandercock really, only getting those 1 year contracts and having to work with that extra pressure. I'll get behind him now that the appointment has been made but I'm sceptical to say the least.'"
I believe Sandy started with a two year contract and then had it extended by one year. I agree three years does seem a long time for a first time head coach. To call it bonkers is a bit strong however. In what way have we gone backwards since Sandy left? Now is the time to give Chester our full support not use his appointment as an excuse to push Sandy's cause. Whatever you think, that time has gone and we need to look forward to the new era. Even when you you say you will get behind Chester you qualify your support with a negative. Approaching things in a negative way never brings success and only tends to bring about the result you anticipate. Let's hope the people inside the club do not have your negative attitude.

| If Chester has the full support of the players, then I'm happy with this. After the widnes match I did wonder whether this was the case and that the players had just decided to do their own thing and sod the game plan. This decision hopefully means that was not the case and the whole side just had a brain fart day. Hope he and the squad go well next year. My bigger problem at the moment is looking at the lack of leaders left in the squad after the departure of Josh and Travis.

I for one believe that rovers have made the right move and if you look at the league now their is not many Australian coaches left their is now a majority of English born coaches lets hope Chester turns out to be a good one

| Good luck Chris, let's hope this is the start of a beautiful friendship.
My biggest concern is Rovers selection process, not only now, but last time as well. 3 years ago, the board publicly announced they would not even consider a British coach, whereas now it's "the most important thing".
The entire strategy would appear to be to follow the crowd. How many SL clubs have done the same over the last few years?

I don't see any improvement since sandy left and, IMO, there is less of a structure to our play, the attitude of the players is terrible (widnes), lack of apparent game plan and discipline issues. I'm not saying that sandy was the answer and deserved a new deal, but hailing Chester as the next big thing and giving him a 3 year deal seems a bit much. If the last 7 or so games were his audition for the job then I don't see how he's passed it. There has been no up turn in fortunes. Look at Powell at Cas or lowes at Bradford and see the impact they have had. In any business, companies have a rigorous interview process when recruiting for such an important position. Did we even hold any interviews with other potential candidates? I just hope that Chester wasn't appointed on sentiment alone coupled with the trend to appoint British coaches at the moment.

Attitude is easy to criticise by quoting one match. How about Saints and Wigan, not that i am saying those two games prove everything in the garden is rosy. I think discipline on the field has improve somewhat. Structure is a broad term and without you specifying what you mean it is difficult to comment. I see the decision to give him a three year contract has been downgraded from "bonkers" to "seems a bit much". As I said I would agree with the latter. I am sure the board took other things into consideration than purely results on the field when assessing his performance. Chester, from a distance, as we don't know the ins and outs of happenings within the club, seems to have dealt with off the field problems in a decisive way. Signings for next year show promise but I admit we won't know until the team takes to the field. In public companies I agree there is a rigorous interview process. Companies where the majority of shares are owned by one or a small number of people do not necessarily operate in the same way. Apparently by what the CEO said a number of people did show interest. The Board have decided to appoint Chester, it is their money and the person who pays the piper calls the tune. I am a minority shareholder but unfortunately not of sufficient wealth to be consulted on these matters. Their decision may prove to be a good one or it may not but I do not believe that it was made on sentiment or on the fad of appointing a British Coach. As the statement on the website states. "He is somebody who understands the club and the squad of players he will be working with but more importantly he is a young British coach who is ready for this position and responsibility" I think the board considering him ready for this position and responsibility is the the key issue in the appointment.

einstien said insanity is when a person does the same thing over and over again but expects a different result: |
|
| I think there looking at stability appointing from within Chester knows the players hasn't been afraid to drop underperforming players I agree the team performances haven't been any better but it's early days bringing in another coach who doesn't know the club could set us back another year

5 points from 6 games. Okay-ish, although with no disrespect to them, 2 of those points were of course against London, whose record speaks for itself. Positive results against Saints and Wigan, plop vs Salford and Widnes.
Think he's the sensible choice. One more year than I expected, but hopefully that'll give him some time to make good medium term decisions.

| One year too long for me also. Was allways going to be his job. I don't think his results alone have cemented the role, but his abilities to deal with trouble/lack of form within the camp. Be interesting to see the response from the players for the last three games.

| If he is or is not the right man for the job I am not sure but who else is there? the only Aussies available are available as no one will give them a job & if they are not good enough there they are not good enough here. I wish Chris well & hope he is given time to come good. He has been coached by some good coaches & seen enough of a winning culture at Wigan to at least know what is expected & how to do it. If he proves a good choice get him tied up long term to bring much needed stability to our club.
