Quote: Pusher "Mantellato scored 16 points on the weekend. He is currently 36 points clear on the leading point scoring with 4 games to go. He should finish on top again for the third year running. Outstanding achievement.'"
He looked like he was playing in pain to me. Probably a rib injury by the look on his face, but it didn't stop him scoring 2 tries and kicking 4 goals. They did give the last kick to Dobson after Mantellato scored the last try - don't know why.
He is named in the side for next week, so I think he's keen to get that top score position.
He actually top scored in the local Newcastle comp for 3 years before he joined the Knights, so this will make 6 years in a row for him.

I feel that sio Dixon Goulding and manntellato would significantly strengthen our backline from what it is now.

That would be our backline next season + cockayne at full back,if the transfers come to fruition, with salter still improving and I would imagine with welham still around the backs look stronger IMO than this year. Dont know what your opinion of welham is,but since he broke his leg against cats,he seems to have gone backwards still the same faults but his try scoring seems to have vanished,I know galea used to lay plenty on for him, but has difficulty holding on to the ball and runs as though he is wearing a pair of jason nethertons boots.

Agree with all that he has always had suspect defence but since the leg break his attack his sharpness has vanished. Don't think any club will come in for him so I reckon he'll be starting off as back up . You. Ever know he may do a shenton !!!

The thing with Welham was you kind of overlooked his defensive deficiencies as he could finish to a high standard, now that has disappeared whether due to confidence in his leg, pace lost due to injury or the loss of Dobson / Galea laying them on for him. He has now just become a defensive liability who can’t score, I struggle to see how if we gave Hallet a go how he could be any worse. The worst he could do is be as bad.
Salter I think has come on leaps and bounds but he needs to find a cutting edge that takes him from an occasional try scorer to a regular try scorer. This may be a consequence of our lack of creativity in the halfs but at least he seems to be able to read the game well.

I still think we need some size in the back line, Sio should add this because I look at our ¾ line and it looks very lightweight, Caro is probably the biggest unit in their but unfortunately he has the heart of a mouse.

Cockayne has done a very good job at FB but I still think he’s liable to the odd catastrophe of a bombed kick or a stupid penalty, this has been masked by the master of the headfart Eden being the other option. Here’s one for everyone, would you take McDonnell back?

Quick answer no .... He's proved he's just a money chaser. Got a few options at full back next year with Ben gudzek and Eden should he stay not to mention Dixon or mannatello should we tie up the deals I think Goulding and sio will start next season as 3 and 4 with Hallet salts and welham fighting it out to be 1st choice back up

Not for me either, long term hamstring injury last season which I think are one of the worst injuries and when they go,they tend to go often, and didn't like the goings on between us,him and our neighbours. I agree regarding welham, made plenty of defensive errors, but countered that with trys and very few handling errors, needs to get back to his pre injury form which I doubt.

Because of 1986, Tony Merchant should be mentioned on here as regularly as Jamie "Bloody" Sandy.

i.e. Never.
