If they gelled then why sign Michael Dobson?

| He didn't gel with Fages he just went thru one of his RARE runs of form when everything he does comes off. I don't hate Salford btw just him lol. When smith left he found himself very much the senior man and like I said had a purple patch. I bet at some point this year u all have a go at Dobbo claiming he's not as good as u thought.

He has his moments. I laughed at his post on the Guildford Giants board a while back.

Dobson shook hands with the doc the year he went to the NRL, he was only ever going for one year, fages is a good young player but not the finished article we need someone in with a kicking game and can lead people around the pitch, then Chase can be left alone to do his thing.
Also I find it funny when opposition fans tell me how one of our players who I watch every week did or didn't click with Fages, I know I was at the games I'm not making it up, you all saw when we took you lot apart at your ground, that wasn't all chase it was a great attacking performance all round, I can understand that a lot don't Like chase but don't start telling fans of the team he plays for how well or not he played with different players.

It’ll be really interesting to see how chase and Dobson work together next year, Dobson was great for us but his one downfall was regardless of who was alongside him everything had to go through him, it certainly never let the other HB flourish and Dobbo played with some very good HB’s (Cooke, Green, Burns). it became very predictable and the better teams sussed us out and to some extent the '6' looked fed up. Chase is another who seems to want to be the main man, one of the reasons him and Smith maybe never worked was that he wouldn't or didn't want to play second fiddle to Chase, Fages on the other hand being a young lad will have been more willing to be the wing man.
If it works it could be fantastic but I think there will be teething problems.

Dobson only had a year to run with us and he would have been off-contract for the start of next season and could then have signed for you if he wanted. He didn't have to go to the NRL to engineer a move to Salford (if that is what you are implying), because if that was his intention he could have stayed with us and you would have still got him when he came off-contract. Had his Newcastle experience been a success I find it very unlikely he would have been back in Super League, handshake with the Marwan or not!
Dobbo was a great player and servant to this club and one I wish every success to. I would say that on paper Chase and Dobson should compliment each other well, but as Barham alluded to he played alongside a few good 6's at the club and his success was at times at a detriment to those players qualities - the challenge will be to use Dobbo's organisation skills to enhance Chase's game rather than stunt it.

| I thought Dobson went off his game when Burns turned up. Got the feeling he didn't like playing alongside a player with a strong character like Burns.

Not wanting to sound like I'm knocking dobbo but I fail to see how dobbo and chase will work, as someone who saw every game he played for rovers the fact is dobbo can only play on the left side of the field (he's very good there mind) he simply struggles to pass left to right, now maybe the Salford fans can tell me different but I've never seen any evidence that rangi has the self discipline to stick to the right hand side of the field for 80mins, I guess time will tell

You can see why the fans stay away. The new ground is soulless and in a bad location.
For all it's faults, I preferred Salfords old ground.

| Why do people put comments on a topic that has nothing to do with the subject?
But while I am on Dobbo and Chase will never ever be a good pairing same as Smith Chase all players named want to be the the conducter they are born leaders, none want to play second fiddle If Harris can get Chase to play off Dobbo and let Dobbo do the leading they will be lethal. If not they will disappear up each other's
