| The first Saints Challenge Cup tie i was ever taken to as a kid was against Hull KR way back in February 1985 on a freezing night at Knowsley Road and HKR won by the unusual score of 8-3. Anyone else on here remember the game in question?

| I think there were 3 worse ties for us in the draw so Isuppose we can't complain. It was always going to be a tough game and if we are to progress we have to beat teams of this calibre, just hope its not a Friday night game.

I hope it is, I will be in a hotel in Manchester the night before my flight, so would be VERY handy to have it on the Friday

I was there , fantastic performance from Rovers that night, Meninga wasnt given an inch all night, a great team that one., Mike Smith , Gary Prohm , Gavin Miller amongst others were sheer class.., shame we didnt perform to the same level against Wigan in the semi depriving us of a second all Hull final...

3-2 down as the second half ticked away then try in right hand corner from Gary Clark. Fairburn didn't strike the conversion cleanly it barely got above crossbar height at any point but just scraped over.
Thick fog on the motorway coming back you could hardly see in front of yourself.
Thought it was 1986 though when we got to Wembley and lost to Cas. If it was 1985 I'm trying to remember who knocked us out that year but can't recall.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

You're correct. 1985 was the Wigan Hull final, brilliant game, James Leuluai nearly got Hull back in the game on his own. Genuinely felt for the Hull fans that day, best final I've ever seen with Saints Bradford 1996 a close second.
In 1985 as someone has said above, we lost 18-11 in the semi final to Wigan at Elland Road.

46042.jpg [quote="Bonzo":23qz4bj5]Corrected.
Incidentally, an exclamation mark ends a sentence and does not require a full stop. The first letter of the next word begins a new sentence and should therefore be capitalised. [i:23qz4bj5]Who needs flankers[/i:23qz4bj5]' grammar was actually correct.
HTH.

David Stephenson scored on the seventh tackle I do believe, not that I'm still bitter or anything!

Some things just stay with you forever, no matter how hard you try, you just can't get them from your mind!
As well as Jamie "Bloody" Sandie, from "The Game Which Should Never Be Mentioned", my other memory of that game was a Rovers family sat in front of my family. The grandma with them was resplendent in home made red trousers for the occasion. Unfortunately, said trousers were not very securely fastened and every time something exciting happened and she jumped up, they fell down revealing a pristine pair of white airtex knickers. I think she also lost her teeth when Joe Cool missed at the end.
