'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world'
Yves Le Prieur, the real inventor of the aqualung: |
|
| The modern majority at FC since the KC was opened like to think it means nothing to beat us, but talk to older FC fans (the minority of them who went to the Boulevard) and it still means everything to them to beat us in a derby. An old colleague of mine (now in his 60's) was talking to me after the drubbing we recieved after a derby friendly at the KC and he was happy as a pig in $h*t because it was a derby win. I am the same, as someone who has been going since 1963 I think the derby games are still the best games to win, yes its nice to beat Leeds or Wigan away, but there is always something special about a derby win and something aweful about a derby defeat.

| I remember when. We was in nl2 all the nasty. Comment and disbarraging remarks
Hull fc gave us the sheer arrogance of hull fans and the club towards us. And when we returned to the top flight they said we let you win just show they cannot accept defeat with dignity. The utter arrogsance and. We are supieror goose stepping they do, make victory over gods gift all the better. Because we accept defeat with dignity hull fc can never do that . That is why. Beating fc means to me dragging them off their high horse, they put them selves on.

HULL KINGSTON ROVERS is my religion, Craven Park is my church and Jordan Abdull is my God: |
|
| It always means a little more than a usual victory/defeat, the fact you can show your face at work and your team has either backed up your boasts or made you look an idiot is more often than not known until the very last seconds of the games

| the banter is what makes them special, you spend the week winding your mates up from the other side and having them winding you up, knowing that if you lose your gonna get loads but if you win then bring it on, cos yes, your gonna dish it out big time.

Generally this is wrong as most of the people who try to wind you up are not rugby fans and they just jump on the hull daily mail/look north big ups........ my mam n dad supports them but i know sod all about rugby type of people. Most real fans generally know the games will be close and not much in it either way. I prefer talking to the real rovers supporters that like to talk rugby league rather than the ( oh rovers wee'd all over u vise versa conversations) either way its bollards and it means no more to me than another 2 points and hopefully a decent game of rugby. But its usually poor technically and skillfully. Although i do generally enjoy it for the atmosphere

Sorry but I can't agree, as we are all from the same city the wind up is all part and parcel of the game in Hull and is what probably sets this derby apart from the rest of RL. It is just 2 points (or deciding whether the season continues or not ) but it does feel either a whole lot worse or a whole lot better depending on how the result goes.
I too like to have sensible conversations with FC fans I know and work with but also like to have a bit of banter when we win or lose. To say banter is only used by non rugby fans is so very wide of the mark. Some people take it way too far I agree and I believe some people do 'hate' the other clubs which is just silly (anything past strongly dislike is unhealthy).
One question for you, does it feel exactly the same to to win or lose to us as it does if you win or lose to Harlequins?
