| It's not as though he wasn't making his name already in the NRL.
I hope we keep him for the full two years but if not I hope he continues to give his all for this season. It's a rare privilege to have such a talent in our ranks.

| Quote: His Bobness "Albie is contracted to Rovers for 2016 which means theoretically he & his agent cannot even talk to other clubs until May1 2016 and even then only about season 2017.
I realise that this regulation is often broken when it suits and there is little anyone can do about that.
It does mean though that Albie & any possible suitors would need Rovers written consent for season 2016. At the very least that would mean compensation for Rovers. Rovers could if they wanted insist he see his contract out (which is 2 years not 3 as stated in HDM)
Albie is only 24 years old and it was always understood that his intention was to go back to the NRL after his two year spell with Rovers. His form has been so good that there is interest already.
Campese & Blair are also stand out players but at age 30 & 31 respectively their situation is different they both came here expecting to play out their careers in Super League.
Getting a blinding talent from the NRL like Albie at age 24 is a highly unusual and we should just enjoy him while he is here however long that should be.'"
Does all that still stand if there is a get-out clause in his contract should an NRL team come calling? No idea (obviously) if he has such a clause in his contract but it has been rumoured in the past that a lot of your NRL signings have.

According to Chris Chester there is no get out clause in Albert Kelly's contract.
If the club did let him go then i would be disappointed to say the least and would have to question the long term ambitions of the cub, its ok some on here saying we should enjoy his talent while he is here but we may also just as well say that about any other real talent that comes along in the future before letting them also go elsewhere .
There comes a point where Rovers BOD have to at least try their utmost to keeping their best players for the long term if the club is really serious about its future success, otherwise fans like myself ( I've been watching the club for 48 years now) will start thinking... what is the point?.

| Surely it's to be expected that you have an overseas half back leave before the end of his contract? Happens every year. I'd be more worried if it were campese leaving if I were a rovers supporter.

| I'd be amazed if there wasn't NRL interest in a 24 year old half who is tearing it up and playing every week. I fully expect him to go back down under at the end of the season, but whether we get a fee or nothing, it's been a privilege already.
However, with Campese signed up long term, I would expect the club to be fairly chilled at the prospect.

That's the point though, we should not be in a position where we expect this to happen every year otherwise we 're never going to achieve stability in the half backs.
Don't forget, we had had a poor year last year because of a "shall we say" less than suitable half back pairing, we don't want to be in a position where we are forever trying to find suitable replacements simply to let them move on after one season.
Its a merry go round that we have to stop if we are ever going to be a real force in the game imo.

| If a player wants to play elsewhere, he'll play elsewhere? Contracts mean nothing these day's.

I've just read the Kelly article and it sounds like he is leaving his options entirely open and letting his manager do the talking, which is usually the case these days, this can be interpreted as, it will all depend on how the club do this season and what offers are on the table financially .
If the club do well this season and lay the foundations for an even better one next year, then I would hope that the club do enough to persuade him that his future lies here, Kelly has already said he loves it here and the direction the club is going in, i also heard him say something similar a couple of weeks ago in the club bar.
one obvious factor that could be a deciding one is financial, would the difference in what he could earn here as opposed to down under be so huge that it became a no brainer, or could the difference be small enough to persuade him that staying here at least for one or two more years would be worthwhile.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

| The rumour that Albert Kelly is going to New Zealand Warriors strikes me as highly unlikely, even ridiculous. A look at the NZ Warriors current talent roster shows whyShaun Johnson. Golden Boot winner and one of the world's top 5 scrum halves, is there and is a near certainty to stay there.
2. Chas Townsend. Playing at No 6 and doing very well for the club (see yesterday's game)
3. Tuimoala Lolohea. A raging hot prospect who is predicted to play No 6 very soon. Can also play full back, centre or wing but Warriors have an abundance of talent, even surplus talent, in these positions.
4. Thomas Leuluai. Now playing hooker but has been used at No 6.
Manly sounds like a more likely destination for Albert since that club will lose both of its current star halves in 2016, and must be cashed up for replacements because of that.
