Two of Thornley, Gelling and Sarginson will make up Wigan's centres next season. Joel Tomkins also effective there.
Charnley sitting in the stands?

| Goulding is a great signing for you guys. Take him in the context of Super League and the centres currently running about. Charnley scored 40+ tries outside of him last year - he knows how to create space for his winger and his timing of when to pass the ball is excellent. He is the best centre at our club and we won the double last year - I'm disappointed to see him leave. He is only 26 too!

Excuse my stupidity.
As you were, why would Charnley come to us?

| He divides opinion at Wigan a little when it comes to how good he actually is. IMO he's our best centre at the moment but the competition isn't exactly world class. On his day he's a quality centre with a decent pair of hands who's first instinct is to get his winger away and that is always how it should be with a 'proper' centre. His defence is pretty solid as well and he's a guy who will never let you down.
One thing I would point out about his winger in Charnley scoring over 40 trys last year is that most of those were down to Sam Tomkins rather then Goulding so I wouldn't be expecting Jamie Lyon. He had a great relationship these past couple of years with the trio around him of Charnley, Hansen and especially Sam Tomkins. He's looked a little lost without those three so it may take some time for him to settle.

This is just not true though when you compare him to other centres and he rates as well as any. Goulding is so underrated its not funny and I think some will not realise how good he is until he has gone. In fact we have seen this a little this season with him being out injured and being left out due to him leaving.
Goulding last season was just outside the top 20 for try assists with 14, Cudjoe was the only centre with more with 16. Only Tomkins and Green with 21 and 16 had more hands in try assists at the club, and with the top 20 dominated by Stand offs, scrum halves and fullbacks this is very good.
In 2012 he had 15 try assists with him being the best centre for try assists and in the top 20 overall. He also scored 10 tries. Again only Finch and Tomkins had more try assists
In 2010 Goulding also scored 24 tries on the wing and was second top try scorer behind Richards.

I think Goulding is a good player and a very good signing for Hull KR (assuming he's not a spent force with all his injuries), but those try assists are misleading.
The reason Charnley scored a bagful is a) because he's exceptional and b) Tomkins drew in tacklers allowing Goulding an easy pass to release Charnley on the overlap.
He's not a strike centre, so don't expect him to be. Solid in defence, solid in attack.

This alone will make him our best centre since getting into SL.

Nonesense I have lost count of the amount of tries he has created from nothing, when there was nothing on, with good flick passes or grubbers.
He is so underrated and is a very good player. He is a great professional too and a very good signing for KR. It is unbelievable that Wigan cant match Hull KR's offer and we are losing our best centre but that is typical Lenagan really. He is tight as anything and would rather replace a good player when he wants a decent wage with a cheap one, I very much doubt we are even spending up to the cap

In a salary capped sport I find this statement rather odd. What's so unbelievable?

I get your point but didnt mean anything by it. I am, more disappointed with Wigan really and the way we keep losing older players and seemingly arent even spending up to the cap, hence being able to bring in Joel Tomkins mid way through the season. We lost Hansen last year in much the same way as Goulding, both after 9 years and due testimonials.
