I don't think that bothers him, he's just so effing bendy. That's why I think he needs holding up and then ramming to the ground with the tackler on top.

Rugby league players are pretty strong and tough guys arent they, did any of you not think that maybe with a little effort the arms could be pulled free? Or maybe a bit of "Gimmi a Penalty ref " was backfiring?

Just wondered if you, like me, thought that a bit more effort may be a better way of indicating to the ref that Tompkins IS clamping. Rather than feeble jerks followed by angry protestations.

I do agree with you. For me, if the tackler pulls his arm free then either the ref will give a penalty to the attacker or a knock on for a loose carry. If the tackler leaves his arm in and makes no effort to clear the ruck (as happened) then the ref has no choice but to penalise the tackler.
