2.3.4. Injury
-If the misconduct has caused injury to an opponent, this may result in a higher penalty than if no injury had occured.
- Panels may consider the length of time an injured opponent is likely to be out of the game when passing sentence.
So not 1-2 then thats just the guidline.'"
The RFL seems to have a policy of leniency but the only time I can remember them getting a sentence right for a deliberate tackle was when Terry Newton took out Sean Long and Lee Gilmour in a shocking display at the (as was then) JJB Stadium.
IMO if there was intent on Colbon then Walker shouldn't be allowed to step back onto a pitch until Colbon does but I guess the RFL couldn't prove that so let him off with a minimum ban. Its hardly enough of a deterrent to make him re-think his playing style.

[quote="The Reason":3e09qe5x]Hi Andy
The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

I must admit at the time there didn't look much intent in the Walker challenge but not seen it again in slow motion. If there was deemed to be intent then he should have got longer, it was a serious injury but could have been much worse.
The last time I remember the RFL gettign a ban about right was Westwoods either last year or the year before when he took someones head of then taunted them on the ground, IIRC he got 6 matches for that..

We're coming to make some noise!: |
|
| Didnt go into Colbon deliberately even tried to jump around him which you can see from the camera angle behind the play. he jumps at the same time as Colby pats the ball back and raises his knees which shows he was trying to avoid Colbon. Difficult to see if it was his leading arm or trailing arm but think it was the leading one that made slight contact to the tip of Colbons jaw.
If it was intentional I agree a couple of months out the game for him and a hefty fine however Ferriols hit on Vella knocking him for 6 deserved at least 6 games but never even got picked up on!!!
I would like to see any deliberate illegal challenge being dealt with seriously and the injured players wages being taken off the cap for the time he is on the side line. This way the club its affected will benefit too unlike at the moment when its everyone else except the team its been done to.

I'm not sure that would make much difference as it would be hard to get a replacement in at short notice for just a few weeks.
I'm also not sure it would be fair to the other teams in the competition.
I would like to see the length of the ban related to the length of the injured players absence.
But what I would really like to see is referees and touch judges doing their job properly and seeing this sort of incident and sending players off or sin-binning them rather than copping out by putting them on report. That way the injured player's team can really benefit, often in a way which might change the outcome of the match.

As I mentioned earlier, he was not charged with an intentional bad tackle. The grade of offence he was charged with is for reckless behaviour and not for deliberate attempts to strike or injure a player. That means that the video panel decided that there was no evidence of intent before they even passed it on to the disciplinary comittee.

For an accidental injury resulting from a reckless tackle? Seems about right.

27608.jpg Motto of the week -
It is the way of the weak to secretly bleat to those in authority rather than fight their own battles.:27608.jpg |
|
| All in all i think 2 matches is about right. There was clearly no intent and whilst the challenge may have been reckless i would say 99 times out of 100 there would be little or no injury to the opponant. Had Liam not got such a serious injury i doubt there would be such a fuss being made.
That said i hope Liam makes a full and speedy recovery. He is a very importatnt part of Rovers make up and will be missed immensely.
