If you've got the time, taking the ball facing sideways is much more sensible. Why take the risk of knocking-on if it is an unnecessary risk? |

Catching a high ball side on is the correct way to do it for various reasons:
1. Less chance of a knock on
2. You have a stable platform (assuming your feet are on the ground) to withstand the tackler coming in
3. You present the hard parts of your body, Knee, elbow, shoulder to the tackler and protect the softer mid section.

Good in defence, offers little in attack. Was evident in the derby, whenever he got the ball in the attacking line he looked like he had no clue what to do.
