As stated there have been a number of incidents recently, including one involving Matt Calland , I doubt that this and any other previous incidents will be now be investigated retrospectively.

I do not agree with the 'make an example of ' style of punishment either.

The RFL have had enough incidents involving violence to consider, to instigate there own punishments but have failed to do so - AFAIK.
The RFL and British sport in general do however have a very low tolerance to drug use , including those classed by some as 'recreational'.

Yes he is lucky but if the Rugby League decides to ban him then lets hope if Pryce and Reardon get done they should get the same punishment like phlip flop said especially Pryce its twicw now for him.

He's a lucky lad to get a (relatively) lenient sentence for an offence that typically results in jail time. I'm not going to comment on whether it's 'unduly lenient' or not as I don't have all the facts of the case that the Judge will have had access to when deciding on an appropriate punishment. I just hope that Cockayne appreciates how stupid he's been and how fortunate he is, and makes better choices in the future.

Im an FC fan and making an example of him would not be beneficial to anyone. There have been numerous misdeameanours from more 'high profile' stars - so the example should have been made of them.

Unfortuntely, if your life (and wage) is derived on performing in the public eye, then youre actions must also be be based on what happens in the public eye.
You cannot simply shirk your reponsibilities once off the pitch.

Especially as a racial element to ANY crime seems to carry a jail sentence. I think any act of violence that results in such convictions deserves a jail stint, Cockayne, Raynor, Pryce or Reardon and it seems that sportsman are immune from being banged up.

I think the majority of the more sensible FC fans on here HAVE condemned thuggery by their own players, admittedly some are treating it like a Rovers v Hull FC thing, but at the end of the day Ben was convicted of a serious offence, which some of us believe (when taking the supporter bit away) that he deserved a bit of slopping out time, this also goes for Raynor as well as any other thug in a rugby shirt.

Ben has had his sentence, some think it was lenient, some don't and as a player on match days he will get my support, but I hope he has learned his lesson and knuckles down to develop himself both as a player and as a man and cut out the crap, he is capable of becoming a much better player.

He also has to remember he is a role model for all the kids who adore him because of his commitment and love of this club.

Same here. I doubt that retrospective action can be considered and it's unfortunate for Rovers that the first strike could be against one of your players, but the sooner the RFL do something the sooner this sort of behaviour could be stamped out (sorry) and RL be truly seen as a family sport. Recent news stories seen to portray a number of players as thugs and we don't need that.
