Although his actions are understandable from our point of view, Operational Law (comprising Law of the Land, International Law, Military Law and Geneva Convention) states we must not ill-treat prisoners or those in custody in any way for any reason. We must master the art of switching between war fighting and peacekeeping and winning hearts and minds at the flick of a switch. Regardless, an incident as small as this one will disappear with a back-hander!

IMO the Geneva Convention should only be adhered to when the enemy abides by it aswell. We all know how any captured prisoners would be treated by the Taliban. |

Nah, still no excuse. For the folliwng reasons:
1. We expect to be given the best chance possible if we become prisoners 'at' war, not used to have revenge taken out on us.
2. Dishing out indescriminate beatings is not going to win over the population which, of course, is one of our aims. |

I've highlighted the key word.
The only way for someone to 'waive' their [ihuman[/i rights is for them to cease to be human - at least in the eyes of those who would remove those rights. That's a very dangerous path to take, and it usually ends up with abuse on a grand scale. |

I agree with the convention, however it was not followed in the case of Rwanada, it would have been justifiable to go in but no one did  |
