Yeah. That's the problem with half backs with a sack full of medals, nothing to prove and a fat salary being paid to them every month

Remind me which of him and kelly have a challenge cup winners medal this year and are on the MOS shortlist?'"

Love this quote and now you're saying having a half back with medals is a bad thing icon_lol.gif

There's no doubt he's an improvement on your halfback options from this season just gone & his career has been fantastic, but best not pretend this is anything more to him than semi-retirement. He hasn't moved to Rovers to win trophies or to sample the culture in East Hull, he's signed because you offered him (at what will be 35) a 2-year deal.

Not unlike Ellis when he signed for you? At that point Fc winning a trophy looked unlikely.Up until that 20-22 game it still did, that was the pivotal moment in both our teams curves would you not agree?
From McGuire and Leeds pov this decision was made after last season being in bottom 4 and both coach and team were under huge pressure/criticism. The feeling was/is Leeds needed new players and the last of the old guard would make way.Suited both parties at that time I reckon? Who could have forseen the GF result back then? Fairytale stuff not unlike the trio in 2015. Seems him coming here has ruffled a few black n white feathers? The jealousy of leeds and the hatred of Rovers combined in the single player who has led Leeds to countless victory. All I'm hearing from fc fans is "injury prone" "past it" "lucky to get 10 games out of him". Same with any signing, he may get injured,he may play every game? So many variables on how that top 8 will end

Not really. Ellis was 30, a current England International, & was in the 4th season of a very good spell in the NRL when he signed for us.

The two seasons prior to him signing, 2010 & 2011, we finished in the playoffs, 6th & 8th.

No I wouldn't. The seeds to success were being sewn well before then, although that game did mark the point in which our season started, albeit wasn't it only Round6?

McGuire isn't injury prone, he's generally got a pretty good record except for a blip in 2016.

But, it is what it is, a 35-year old half getting a final payday from a club desperate enough to offer one. I'm talking from experience having seen players like Dykes, Long & Pryce in recent years.

Ellis could have gone to bigger clubs but went with Hull because he wanted the extra year/s contract. No different

hmm.

they have got and the bottom line for me was that it was a great time to be involved with Hull FC," said Ellis, who will take up a three-year deal in November.I said originally that I would maybe like to return to one of my old clubs or my home-town club in Castleford but, when I looked at it and thought about it more, I realised I still really wanted to win things and achieve things and I really believe I can do that at Hull FC."

I've quoted you his specific reasons and he achieved them. Let's face it, at the time he could've got a 3-year deal pretty much anywhere in SL.

Dodging the end of Gentle's reign and Radford's first faltering steps as a head coach. Possibly winning a Grand Final and back to back cups with Leeds. Bad decision whatever way you look at it. icon_wink.gif

You mentioned he was 30 when you signed him - I suppose that is possible if it was announced in spring 2012. But it was his 32nd birthday before he made his debut. And he turned 35 before he lifted the cup the first time.

Also, while I actually believe Gareth Ellis was completely sincere, it surely doesn't take a massive leap of empathy to realise that we might not always find Hull FC propaganda completely compelling evidence. Especially anything published in the hdm circa 2013, when the coverage became hilariously sycophantic.

Edit - just noticed it is the 'other' daily mail.

I must apologise for linking to "that" Daily Mail, I hate the rag, it was just the first search result I came across. No FC propaganda involved as I see you've now corrected, just quotes from the horses mouth. Who are we to refute what he says?

We announced Ellis had signed in March 2012 (aged 30). Debuted when he'd just turned 32, and his first deal expired at age 34.

I'd have let it pass if you hadn't earlier ticked McGuire's clock over to 'going to be 35'. icon_smile.gif

DM is 3 and a half years older on signing for Rovers than GE was on signing for Hull. By using different dates for the comparison, it can be stretched to look like 5, but equally squeezed to look like 2.

McGuire is a good player and professional, so I expect he'll be fully committed. Whether that'll be enough for him to make the sort of contribution we hope for only time will tell. In any case, I don't expect his arrival to be transformative like Ellis's was (eventually) at Hull. But if we can get organized, and put the right players around him, he certainly still has the class. Those are some big IFs, but Sheens inspires more confidence than his most recent predecessors.

If I could be d I'd trawl through articles from years ago and post the one were he said he chose Hull for the extra years contract. The trophy talk was just guff that no one believed. You spin things expertly and you got to post your little picture,Reminds me of someone? I think there is 1 person behind the same 2 or 3 posters on here.Just to clarify I couldn't care less what an FC fan thinks of Rovers and would rather not read it on here. I'm all for debate and don't always agree with fellow supporters views on KR but I'm sick of the sly digs and veiled insults from Lord haw haw. Bore off
