Waltzin' Matt Hilder is an ultimate clubman and an ultimate journeyman. Fans at all his clubs have loved the guy, because he would play 80 minutes with an amputated leg if you asked him to, and make 40 tackles.
Coaches all drop him whenever they have a bigger guy to go with, because for all his heart, he is a small guy who doesn't have many skills - just lots of guts.
He will put his hand up for anything. He played 5/8 at the Titans when they didn't have anyone else. He plays hooker and tops the tackle count every game, in part because forwards don't mind running at him. He plays lock and works his off.
He got the players player award at the Knights in 2010 and 2011 because all his fellow players love that he gives 100% and never gives up - mostly playing lock - but Bennett has mostly used him at hooker when others are injured.
Last year he got concussed several times, I think because he kept coming back too early, and this year he has missed a lot of games with concussion too.
The Knights reserve grade are going very well this year with a very young group of players, and having Hilder there, working his guts out, has been great for the young guys. He is playing lock in a pack full of big 20 and 21 year olds, and outplays them most games
If he could still cut it in the ESL, and he probably can, he would be good for your culture. The opposite of Cory Paterson - Pato has all the gifts and little application - Matty has no gifts and a heart bigger than himself.

The bit about about his helping a young team with his work ethic and experience sounds like a good fit.
Bit of a worry about the repeat concussions - for the lad himself too, I imagine.

Strengths - great tackling technique - makes 30 + most games and misses very few - great fitness - plays hard for 80 minutes - backs up all game - first to kick chase often.

Weaknesses - not a big guy and doesn't threaten to break the line or hurt anyone in defence. His dummy half work at hooker is slow and predictable.

I agree with you Sandra but it seems that the coach doesn't rate one of them obviously from team selection and the attempt to sign Hilder.
Me I would keep Keal and play him instead of usuing him for backup.
Should be running with the young kids when we can, Chris Heil did next to nothing wrong at the season start and has been left out in the cold, James Green should get more game time, young Arron Ollett also.
Young local players is the way outta this mess not overseas players.

Chris Heil while being good in attack was woeful in defense and I would rather have Salter playing than Heil.
