30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

| Isn't Puletua in serious contract dispute with Salford?
Really, really hope the Goulding rumour is untrue, but this concussion issue is a very serious issue that needs rapidly addressing, we don't need to be getting into an NFL scenario. The game seems to have evolved into more than a human body can take. I remember the first few games of 2007, it was the first time I'd watched close up top level RL for quite a while, my only other exposure being test matches where you're usually a fair way back from the action because of the stadia they're played in. The smack of flesh on bone was terrifying. We all like the physicality of the game, probably more so those of us who've played, but it's getting too much.

There do seem to be more head injuries than ever before which is down IMO to greater fitness, speed and intensity but also multiple players in the tackle. Most of the time these injuries come from head clashes or bangs to the head from a team mate in the tackle. Thankfully they're being properly monitored now which should reduce the long terms problems but I have no idea how you reduce them

I read an article, maybe 2 or 3 years ago, in which proportion of games missed due to injury was higher in RL than in any other sport they looked at. It was both the severity and, even more so, the frequency of injury.
There always seem to be two or three SL teams managing a severe injury crisis at any one time now, after about round 8. I'm not sure 25 senior players is enough anymore - especially if injuries (and suspensions) happen to be focused in one area.
I understand why clubs wanted the extra guaranteed fixtures, and why that'd be cancelled out by bigger squads. But the gap from 19s to SL is too big to bridged quickly by anybody who isn't both an exceptional talent and an early physical developer.
Obviously, Rovers' current situation focuses the mind yet, and it is the same for all teams with similar resources, but you do wonder just how tenable it'll be for the sport in the medium to long term. Particularly around concussion.

| Very worrying regarding Daryl Goulding but at age 27 I would have thought/hoped even if he missed the rest of this season he wouldn't make a decision to retire at this stage.
Obviously his health is the only priority and he cannot play a violent contact sport like Rugby League whilst there are any concerns.
I share the concern expressed by others about the seemingly growing number of head injuries.
In each of our last 3 games there have been nasty head injuries and all have been caused by collision with a team mate. Adam Walker required surgery after a head clash with Tyrone McCarthy, Liam Farrell's face was rearranged by a clash with Michael McIlorum and Ken Sio was left with concussion and a possible broken jaw after colliding with Ben Cockayne.
Full time athletes fitter, stronger and playing at higher intensity than ever before and with scant regard for personal safety.
The rules have been changed over and over to make the game faster and more intense but are we witnessing the law of unintended consequences? Has the time come to think again about the 10 metre rule and mass interchanges?
I do think that if the RFL have genuine concern for player welfare then these are the real issues to address, NOT Castleford's demands for fixture change which were transparently for the benefit of Castleford only.

| We had Greenwood on loan at Salford during our injury crisis. I must admit, for a lad who isn't really a kid anymore he didn't really impress. Don't get me wrong, shirked nothing and worked hard but just wasn't big or strong enough to make an impact.

Didn't he only make 2 appearances? Hardly enough to make much impression really is it?

Something like that, 3 possibly. I can only comment on what I saw of him during his limited time with us. In comparison Oliver Gildart (young Wigan centre) really impressed and is certainly one for the future. Greenwood however looks Championship standard, unless he does something much different at KR.
