30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

We all have differing opinions on players abilities and even brands of coffee I might add, but the lad in the wheelchair at Catalans who Ben spent an hour chatting to and the disadvantaged kids he often makes feel special at various functions and camps would probably disagree with you.

| I wouldn't have kept him to be honest, he's a back up player now and nothing more. I would rather have Gudzek and Hallett in the back up full back/wing capacity, both have served their apprenticeship and performed well on loan/DR. Surely they deserve a chance? I think there's a very good chance they would be as good as BC, and 10 years younger with potential to improve. I want to see Dixon play week in week out at full back next year to see how he develops, with BC still around Chester will be likely to pick Ben at full back too often as he has this season. Fair enough give Dixon the occasional game off and let Gudzek get some game time.

Benny C was in fact offered this position but had to reluctantly decline due to his prior commitments as utility full back, winger and hate figure to the pious.

| Nowt pious about me squire.
I have my opinions, whereas you feel you don't get quite enough attention so attempt in a rather awful way to promote yourself.
See "Kisser" magazine for evidence.
Get paid for your(ahem) writing their did you?

| Wow! ....Are we all still trying to take the moral high ground? ......We scrutinize those within the public sphere, but conveniently ignore the morality of those that we personally know who are somewhat less then wholesome! ......A lovable rogue, right?!

| I don't agree with the blocking Guzdek argument - the way he gets in the team is by being better than Cockayne and others. SL isn't a development competition - we probably need to provide better opportunities for players who are 20 or 21, but not by manufacturing them at the elite level.
BC is a versatile, competent and whole-hearted player. A problem, and this is not his fault, is that some fans think he is brilliant and/or love him as a player. His strengths get exaggerated, which is fine, but there's also tendency for his team mates who compete for a place in the team with him to have their flaws or limitations magnified. See Kieran Dixon and, especially earlier in the season, Mantellato as examples.

I respect your opinion, but I'd ask how can we find out if Guzdek is as good as/better than BC at full back when Chester will always play BC ahead of him whilst he's still at the club?
I agree he is a competent squad player but I would rather see Guzdek/Hallett given the chance to prove they can do the same job. It's not like BC brings exceptional quality to the team when he plays, his main attributes are his effort and intensity. Which young local players you would expect also bring that enthusiasm and will make mistakes but so does BC at 32.
The fan favourite/hero role grates on me slightly, I have nothing against BC for being seen n this light it's not his fault but it's a bit cringe worthy and not really justified. And when it leads to people being blind to his faults and calling Dixon for errors it's just annoying.

I agree with most of your post, but honestly believe that if CC thought picking JG gave us a better chance of winning, then he'd pick him. Yes, there's a section of our support who want to see BC come what may. Just as there's some for whom giving the kids a run is a priority. Winning games is what will secure Chester's livelihood and I'm sure he understands that.
