Quote: Mild Rover "I doubt it'll be a straight forward tick-list like that. I don't think it even should be. From a transparency POV and to allow clubs to plan ahead, detailed criteria should be made available, to clubs at least, if not the general public, well in advance of applications. Last I heard, the RFL were still considering it and applications are due in just a few months.'"

I agree, and I'm certain it is like that, hence my comments about youth development. Fact is, however, those points will either be awarded or they won't and I'm not saying we're guaranteed a 'B' because I think we tick those boxes, I'm just putting my opinion in regarding the criteria the RFL have said they will use.

Still concerned about the decision to 'definitely promote a championship club' before applications are submitted though.

Extension of the east stand is imminent which should take the capacity to 12k and hopefully help us towards that magical 10k average.

The north stand is a major development and the planning/funding is ongoing. I'm lead to believe the majority of funding has been found for it, but there is still work to do. It'd be very nice if we're there or thereabouts with the north stand by the time the 2014 applications are made.

Even if we miss out on the capacity and junior development points, 5 is still enough for a B licence. I'd like to think the work we've done at junior level would win a point though. As long as the RFL don't move the goalposts, I think we should be fine.

What has always been a worry to me is their decision to announce at least one club will be replaced. If they are judging clubs strictly on the above criteria, how can they possibly know there'll be a better club outside SL [ibefore[/i the applications are submitted?'"

I'd say you are more likely looking at 5 points but You'll be fine for a new franchise.
I'd say it's wakey cas and salford who should be the ones panicking.

I think one team will get relegated and I think that the RFL have to do that to show that the process is more than smoke and mirrors.

'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world' Yves Le Prieur, the real inventor of the aqualung:

Quote: Mild Rover "I agree. However, Quins and Crusaders can play the expansion card. Wakefield, Cas and Salford each have plans in place for a new, modern stadium. If all 3 got built, and it is a huge if, then we'd definately be pulled into the endangered list. Relying on others to fail, even when there is a good chance that at least one will, isn't a comfortable position to be in.
We've got other things in the plus column - crowds are decent and the team has been fair to middling. But if other clubs get those new stadiums, then it could well increase their gates and a couple of bad years on the pitch could leave us close to the edge in 2014. The weakest link will already have been replaced by then, likely by Widnes, further erroding our cushion.
That is what franchisizing is all about - the pressure is on our club, and others, to improve. Hopefully the board, the fans and other stakeholders can achieve that.'"

CP is only 21 years old, its a baby compared to Wrexham, Odslum, Headingley, Stoop. All it needs is updating, not replacing.

worry not fellow robins.....

by the time the licencing comes around well have a completed east stand housing 6000 of the prettiest, most drunken but well behaved rl fans in the world crammed together, arms aloft, singing red red robin.....a brand spanking new north stand with all the commercial and community delights east hull could wish for.....a new 3000 capacity seated away south stand with top notch facilities for the lovely fc fans to half fill on derby day.....ohhh and maybe a new west stand, maybe similar to that one worcester??? have built for the 'other' game

add to that a developing top side formed around the ever improving international shoe ins that are liam watts and josh hodgson and a vibrant youth policy with applicants queing all the way down preston road

To be honest I think it's now time to finally give Quins the boot (there just isn't the interest down there for RL at Super League level and there never will be), but I agree there's no way the RFL will kick them out, e.g. because doing so would be them admitting they were wrong. icon_twisted.gif

I disagree about London and Crusaders as I think they are both getting it right off the field and they play in nice stadiums. The community and amatuer set up in London is a credit to the club and the hard working people who have given hour after hour to get young kids playing in the capital. Their form is patchy but given a bit more time they could well sneak in the 8 this year.

I think you are right though, Rovers are above all of those sides and unless they get further into the poop as far as cash is concerned they ahve done enough on the ptich and to the ground to warrent another three years.

Hopefully they will just add two more teams and make it a 16 team comp where everyone plays each other twice followed by a nice and simple play off system.

It aint gonna happen though.

I go a lot to Quins and the surprising thing for me is that there are different faces around me each week. I am sure the same people dont ever come back. They come once and then never return!!

They will get it right one day, I just hope it is soon.

A good marketing director will pull that off, the capital has enough people to go at, they just seem content with giving away freebies which dont work as the Rugby is not the best and people never bother to come again.

The dance group for the Cas game was amazing, more stuff like that and the crowd will go up. My Daughter already asked if she can bring some mates next time I take her.

2 new stands and the east stand extension by next year?

Whilst I rate watts and to a lesser extent hodgson I'd hardly describe them as "international shoe ins"

Fair play for being positive though

You're assuming the same criteria are used as for last time's assessments. This is the RFL. icon_lol.gif

Although something similar will be used, have the RFL actually said what the criteria are? If no club breaches the cap, for example, because of the live policing by the RFL, this might be dropped. Similarly it is a requirement for 8 homegrown players now rather than an aspirational target, so again this is a minimum standard and therefore irrelevant (for SL club assessments at least) as a differentiator. I still think there might be measure of youth development - could be U20s performances as an example.

Either way Rovers are nailed on IMO for the next round, but as said by others will need to sort the North Stand if others deliver on their new stadium commitments before the 2014 bids . Leigh and Widnes are set in this respect already, and Toulouse I reckon will be looked on favourably after the success of Catalans.
