30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Unless they are paid as full time professionals (and therefore will be used for community development work, marketing or given jobs in the shop to shift most of their wage from the cap into a different area) then why would they be paid a SL salary for playing in the Championship?
Most Championship players worth bothering with have a basic of between 5k and 15k a year plus bonus. You can do it if you stick to a plan

| How odd. Rovers are slated for undervaluing Makali (aided and abetted by the evil agent Stanley Gene) yet Hull FC were unwilling to offer him a deal competitive with a Championship club.

Sort of begs the question, how much were Hull offering him if he turned them down in favour of Fax, given your information?

Have you not seen the size of the community team at Halifax?
Hull, for example, may have offered 30k a year.
Halifax, just for example, may have offered 15k basic, 18k for community work (paid by sport England or other such grants) and £350 a win 150 a draw £50 a bonus point.
Hull would of offered a reasonable amount for a full time player who would be 4th choice prop if you ask me, just that Championship clubs can bring in one or two (about 8 in Fax's case) SL standard players and use other legal methods to pay them.

Ok, ta for the explanation. I now understand how top Championship sides (and Fev ) manage to recruit decent standard players. Now if they could only improve the standard of back room/coaching staff.................

Never trust an RL fan who dresses in such a fashion so as to resemble a humbug!

Yeah, Daryl Powell, Ryan Sheridan and Iestyn Harris really ought to step aside and let someone with some coaching credentials have a go.
Same with Cullen at Widnes and Harrison at Batley.
Replace them all with coaches from the National Conference League eh

Can Super League clubs not use the same means to bump up a players wages or is the Super League salary cap more tightly regulated?
I know that some Rovers reserve lads work on the development side but wondered wether it could be done with a first team squad member?

No it cant , more scrutinised
We got done when Andy Last played a game, they took the full amount of both his playing and coaching salaries into account, although rules have slighlty changed now

I remember the Last situation but didnt realise they took his coaching salary into account. Seems harsh when he was genuinly doing the job.
I would have thought that the League would be better off encouraging clubs to put players into Development positions, on a part-time basis going into schools etc.
Its got to be better for the game than some of the other alleged examples of clubs getting around the Salary Cap.
On a different topic, does anybody know How Dobbos girlfriend is getting on working in the Rovers club shop?
