| The Cox rumour has been doing the rounds for a couple of weeks now. James Green is a new one though. I understand Cox's agent advised him to turn down all approaches from Rovers. We need James Green tying up on a 4 year (minimum) deal as soon as possible. I'm not sold on Cox being worth that just yet.

About time he got a mind of his own then.
Seriously, what's the point of the club spending thousands of pound bringing these players through the youth set up if at the end of the day these agents,( parasites by name and by nature imo) call the shots.
I realise that players have a living to make but a little loyalty wouldn't go amiss if the contract offer from the home club is a good one.
I can also understand why Neil Hudgell and other club chairmen have such low regards for these agents who think of no one but themselves.

I thought they could not be tapped up until next month, or am I being stupid that in thinking that agents stick to that rule?'"
a few of the guys at work(kr fans) said they had also heard lovegrove , Hall are both getting released at the end of the season (Hall maybe sooner and lovegrove due to being a bad influence at the club) , also Costigan wants to go home as his wife cant settle !!! how true who knows

I also heard yesterday, the rumour about Costigan going back home due to the reasons you have stated above, I think there may be some truth in that particular one.

He's contracted until the end of the 2016 season. Hardly a priority is he?

If Rhys Lovegrove leaves Rovers it's knack all to do with him being a bad influence and all to do with idiots allowing it to happen.

| As far as I'm concerned, Cox hasn't shown nearly enough to force Rovers to jump through any hoops to try and sign him, looks little more than an okay player.
Green on the other hand is not only a very exciting prospect, but already a good SL prop in his own right. Very important that we tie him down IMO.

Possibly. But although he's played more, Cox is a year and a half Green's junior. The Walkers are slightly younger than Green and a bit older than Cox. Players develop at different rates and times (Jamie Peacock being an obvious example) I know, but I think our homegrown players stay younger longer in fans perception, sometimes.
They're both decent/promising players. But ignoring 'holding on to our own', on ability alone it'd be disappointing rather than catastrophic if they left. Currently.

I understand what you're saying about home-grown players staying younger in fans' minds (and I didn't actually know Green was older than the Walkers) but I don't think that this detracts from Green's potential. Regardless of the fact that the Walker boys are also very good prospects/players, there is room for all 3 to grow into exceptional prop forwards. There is still a great deal of development in most props up to at least 25 so they are all still in the infancy of their SL careers, Green more so than the Walkers.
I think one of the big issues for Cox is that he doesn't really have a nailed on position. Is he strictly an impact player? If so is that an impact prop or an impact back rower? This possibly isn't his fault, having been moved around a bit in the role that he plays, but I don't feel that he has really shown enough in any position to be holding Rovers to ransom over his new deal.

I agree with you on both points.
I think both Langley and Costigan look like tough, roll their sleeves up loose forwards. We're pretty well off for props - especially now Green is starting to look the part. So I'd like Cox to look like a second-rower - but I actually think he looks potentially better down the middle now he's filling out.
If we keep one of Green/Cox and can nab somebody from another squad who looks like a natural left side second row, that'd possibly be decent business. I'd keep both a bit longer for preference, but for squad balance I think this could be spun as an opportunity, if it is already out of our hands.
